I've seen a few episodes. I didn't even catch on that its all under water until a grandson informed me of this.

Lots of adult humor hidden in the show, like living in Bikini Bottom.

Lots of adult humor that kids don't catch.   I think Crabs is a metaphor for Jews as the whole race of crabs are cheap business owners.  Squidward  typical liberal etc etc.

Fun fact:

The voice of spongebob is in the music video for Tonight Tonight by The Smashing Pumpkins.
Him and his wife are the main characters in the video.

The only reason I know this is because Billy Corgan told me himself

I watched it with my kids and now my grandkids.
It is entertaining at least.

Remember, SpongeBob was supposed to be a pot head with red eyes when first conceived.
Of course the kids don't know this.

ETA: I also heard that Devo does the soundtrack but don't quote me as I'm not sure.

I've watched it with my girlfriends kids. As with most kids shows lately, there's quite a bit of adult humor thrown in too. Sometimes it's good for a few laughs.

They are making a Spongebob Musical!

Currently in development, will open in Chicago next year for a test drive before heading to Broadway.

Songwriters include David Bowie and Cyndi Lauper.  Sounds like a hoot!

Mark Mothersbaugh did a lot of music work for kids shows, especially the ones from Nickelodeon.  But I'm not sure Spongebob was one of them.

The first 3-4 seasons are some of the best comedy of the last 30 years.

It's available on Netflix - just start at the beginning and watch them all.

+1 for the "used to have a Spongebob avatar" crowd.

Seriously? There's so little sexual innuendo in that show it's almost weird.  If there's *any* romantic interest, it's between Spongebob and Sandy Squirrel - who is female.

Well, there's Plankton and his computer wife, but it's a marriage of convenience.

ETA Nevermind - I took the bait.

That being said Teletubbies is gay propaganda.

Lots of hidden humor in these shows, as Mom & Dad watch with their child.
I liked the Cow & Chicken episode where Chicken was feeding her pork butts with a huge slingshot, and got swallowed.
Chicken is paddling through Cow's stomach on half a hot dog, and the dueling banjoes song starts. 'ENZYMES'!
'Purty beak you got there boy, let me hear ya cluck like a chicken'.....
Like a toddler would get that.
