Specifically regarding the G30 series.
My brother was asking is I knew anything about these. I don't shoot Glocks well, therefore I don't really know much about them Please 'splain to me the difference between the 30 SF, the 30 S & the 30 Gen 4 Near as I can tell the Gen 4 & the SF are identical (at least as far as their specs go) Noe the 30 S is 2mm longer yet about 3-1/2 oz lighter (?) Also the SF and the Gen 4 offer an optional 13 round magazine (vs just the 10) where as the 30 s doesn't (?) Wouldn't they all be able to take the same mags ? Again I am Glock ignorant so someone please enlighten me and help get my bro to the 'Dark Side' Thanks |

30 SF is a 30 with 1/10" shorter distance from trigger face to beavertail/web of hand area
Glock no longer makes a standard 30 30S is a 30 SF with a thinner slide, the 30S will fit in the 9/40 holster. The 30 G4 is the same refinements as all other G4 Glocks. A 30 G4 with no back strap is the same dimensions as a 30SF |

Here are the things Glock did different with the gen 4

I own a G30SF.
Here's the scoop. The original Gen3 grip on the G30 was very large, too large for most people. So along came the G30SF, the SF standing for Short Frame. They reduced the dimensions at the back strap to make it more comfortable for average size hands. Then after that the G30S came out. The Slim model has essentially what is a G36 slide mated to the SF frame, to make it lighter and easier to carry. Then the G30Gen4 came along. A stock Gen4 frame with no backstraps added is the same size as the SF frame. The side is the heavier design. The G30 is considered a Subcompact, and all of these models have the dual nested recoil spring. G30 and G21 mags work in all of them. If you reverse the mag catch on a Gen4 model, you have to use Gen4 mags. Hope that helps. |
