There is a giant wasp that hunts those things. Look up cicada killer wasp. I have been getting those in my yard. At first, I thought that they were sphinx moths, since I have only seen one other cicada killer in NE Ohio. However, I finally caught one landing, and realized what it was. That is good, because I hate cicadas damaging my fruit trees. As for the the question posed in the thread's title, I have found that .22 short works just fine for cicadas. The resultant explosion is spectacular. I wish I had a high-speed camera to record it. |
