Picked up a tracked skid steer - Takeuchi TL-26 unit, Isuzu 62hp.

Runs great for about 45 min to an hour, then takes a shit....sounds like its running on 3 cylinders...  No power, very little throttle control.  If I leave it sit for an hour or so, it's good again....

I think it's fuel related.  Checked the obvious.  New filter, vent tube unplugged, I don't see any leaking fuel....nothing that I could find is loose.

Pump?  Or?

If the symptoms are consistent I'd be looking moar at a heat issue....

Thanks.  Few more things to try.

one thing i noticed today... i removed the rad cap hot (yea i know)....no pressure at all.  has coolant, and it was hot, but no pressure.  going to pick up a leak tester and a new cap to start.  i still think i may be having fuel issues... itll run like shit but then start running good again for a while.... while it loses power the engine sounds like its "missing"

If you get no answer PM me Monday and I'll ask my shop guys.

We have the bigger brother of that unit in the fleet. (Along with a JD 240, JD 317 and CAT 262)

Is there a water temperature gauge? Is it reading high?

Sucking air into the fuel system. Proof would be to put on a temporary feed line and run it from a separate tank. I have a Bobcat that is doing kinda the same thing. Will run fine if the tank is over 1/2. Any less and it runs out of fuel to the engine. I think the pickup hose in the tank is broken...again.

In your case; could be something as simple a bad gasket on the fuel filter or a loose fitting. Maybe even a soft hose collapsing or deteriorating. Suction leaks are hard to find, as they don't leak out like a pressure leak. Sometimes you can find a leak by stuffing a rag around a blow gun in the tank filler neck and slightly pressurizing the tank.

temp gauge is doa...  i need to try to wire it direct from the sending unit and batt to the gauge....  there's a harness issue somewhere.

good info - ill try that w/ the rag and blow gun.  short of replacing all the rubber hoses yeah i can see how this would suck to find.  it seems like a common issue now that i look into it more

Pick up tube in the tank cracked sucking air or it is dis lodged and it is floating around sloshing.

If there's a strainer in the fuel tank small grit could be stopping it up.

Had the same issue on an old hearse someone traded in where the manufacturer had relocated the fuel filler by blocking off the old fill hole in the tank and hole sawing a new port to put the filler neck in. The hole saw idiot left the round metal plug sliding around in the tank, and by the time we got the car it'd run great for a while, then starve for fuel. When I dropped the tank and popped it open the fuel looked like it had glitter in it from that piece of metal sliding around for 24 years and scrubbing the bottom. The stuff was fine, but not fine enough to go through the sock in the tank, so you had no idea what was going on, filter looked fine, fuel pump worked, then it'd just starve for fuel and run like shit. Let it sit awhile and the crud would fall off the sock and you could go again til it sucked up too much crud.

Agitate the fuel, and siphon some out into a glass jar, and see if it's got crud in it. That piece of equipment should have a drain plug on the fuel tank so you can drain it if there is crud in it.

While fuel flow is a possible issue, I'm going to still look for a overheat issue first...

No temp gauge, no pressure in ththe cooling system, gets sluggish after about an hour work when cooling system and hydraulic oil are both at max temp, gets better after a cool down period...

Make sure radiator and oil cooler are not packed full of dust / mud and find out why the cooling system isn't pressurizing... Also fix temp gauge...

This!  - We have a 763 Bobcat that has broke the fuel pickup twice.   As long as the fuel is above the crack it runs fine, once it gets below or sloshes it sucks air in and it runs like shit or just dies.  Major PITA to replace too....

YMMV

Could be the injectors.

The D9 I run at work would run fine then after pushing for a while would start skipping. A audible ticking could be heard that kept pace with the engine rpm. When it was skipping it was very week then like a light switch flipped and the tick went away and it had the usual power it was supposed to have.

After the injectors were changed the problem went away.

Come on over and join us

http://www.skidsteerforum.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=54

i'm sure we can help you out , ive gone through 2 bobcats 825/873
fuel problems , in both cases replaced the pickup screen and tube
i also run MR gasket green diesel  electric fuel pumps on them as they are alot cheaper
that what Bobcat wants for a pickup pump .
