After setting up a bunch of older (and very simple) CCTV dome cameras here at the house, I figured i'd try buying/installing a 720 HD IP camera. Eventually I'd like to upgrade my entire system with HD cameras for better resolution... but wanted to dabble with something cheap to learn on first.
I found a cheap IP/ethernet camera on ebay and didn't think it would be so damn complicated. This is a whole new learning curve for me and I 'kinda feel this is way over my head. I'm not an IT guy or computer geek at all, so this gets frustrating for me very quickly. In fact, I am typing this thread on the very same Dell Dimension 4600 desktop I bought in 2001 when I joined this site. I have a Motorola modem supplied by Comcast/xfinity and have sofar managed to fuck it up to the point of needing a factory reset to default settings. The camera is a no-name brand with some "Hero speed cms" viewing software that came on a mini disk. I managed to get the software on my PC but it will not talk to the camera. Is there a simple way to get this damn camera to work ? Thanks in advance ! |

OP: IP camera are awesome but they require setup. If you don't want to topen ports in your router and other stuff you might not be able to use one.
There are many cloud cameras, like these http://www.trendnet.com/products/products.asp?cat=103 that are very easy to setup and are great, but you have to pay monthly fees for the cloud. |
