So a few weeks back I found my old partially serrated Griptilian.  At the time I had just bought my Spyderco Endura, but I figured, why not see if I can get the blade replaced on the Grip and have another spare blade and/or a blade to pass down to my son in a year or two when he's ready for his own pocket knife (around 5 or 6 years old).  So I contacted BM and found out the process.  At first I wasn't thrilled that I had to pay $30 and wasn't going to get to keep my old blade, but I figured a plain edge I'd get a lifetime of use out of was better than a partially serrated that would sit in a drawer.

As far as condition goes it was somewhat rough but not abused.  Blade was loose.  Starting to show staining/rust near the pivot.  Somewhat dirty internals.

On the sheet I wrote that I would really appreciate a drop point rather than the sheepsfoot but that a sheepsfoot would do just fine.

A week went by and I called just to check on the status.  It was already going to be shipped back....wow!  So another week goes by and I called up (yesterday).  Due to technical difficulties on their end, the knife wasn't shipped on time and was held up.  However, I was told it would be arriving today...great!!

Just opened the box and was SERIOUSLY impressed!! They replaced multiple parts, I got my drop point blade, crisp/solid lock-up, well oiled, etc.....it's a great knife again!!!

As I was about to toss the slip I read it over in case I missed anything....WOW!....NO CHARGE!!

Not sure if this was an apology for the shipping delay or what but they charged me a total of ZERO for replacing the blade/parts and shipping.

Now I'm not saying it's how everyone gets treated, or that anyone else should expect the same for free as I was given.  Just giving credit where credit is due.

Something else I notice, and not sure if it's just me, but this drop point feels heavier than the sheepsfoot.  Is that me or does it have more heft?

Just wanted to share.

That's awesome!

It costs companies money when you do things like repeatedly inquire about order status.  Between Lifesharp, shipping and fielding your phone calls, hopefully they can continue to offer this kind of service and turn a profit.

At least you posted a nice write-up.

ETA: Sounds like you paid for the knife originally.  There was a thread on here a while ago about a guy doing this with a benchmade he found in the cushions of an old couch.

Benchmade wouldn't be like that if Donald Trump owned them.

And benchmade wouldn't exist if Hillary owned them.

I would hope two phone calls wouldn't harm an international company at the top of its field/market.

It was actually an anniversary present from my wife.

Concrete examples of Trump buying business and ruining their customer service? Curious if that's how he rolls.

Benchmark is a squared away company. No charge to me to fix the spring on my Striker Auto. They actually completely overhauled the knife and replaced pretty much every part that could be replaced. Made the blade scare sharp too. All for free, on a 20 year old knife that has been through HELL.

I buy nothing but benchmade and just send them in once in a while to have them sharpened, tuned up, springs changed whatever. It's pretty cool.

I'll be honest, compared to my Endura, the BM is heavier, bulkier, not nearly as grippy or locked into the hand, and it's a smaller blade.  I'm actually thinking about typing up a comparison review.  However, BM is definitely quality and my experience is proof they know how to treat their customers!
