Need to kill some grass growing in my asphalt driveway. What do I need to use that won't harm/stain the drive? Thanks! |

Umm. Round up is permanent. Kills the plant completely including any tap root. Nothing beats its effectiveness. Quoted:

Generic grass killer from Ace hardware....might take a while but effective and lasts longer than Roundup Umm. Round up is permanent. Kills the plant completely including any tap root. Nothing beats its effectiveness. Says it is permanent but the same weeds kept coming back until I tried something else. |

The seeds were already there before you killed the plant. That's why you had to keep reapplying. With round up one treatment does it. Maybe two. It's effectiveness is getting foliage exposure. Oh. And it doesn't fuck up the soil. I love it. |

Except Glyphosate ready crops, and some crazy resistant weeds, but they probably aren't growing in OP's driveway. Quoted:

The generic Round Up is Glyphosphate. Mix it 6oz. To a gallon and it is liquid death to anything green. Except Glyphosate ready crops, and some crazy resistant weeds, but they probably aren't growing in OP's driveway. Monsanto! Boo! They genectly modify our food to kill us! Boo! So scary food. Things kill plants bad. Try new organic solution that is salt. This new sodium chloride cure kills but the evil corporations don't want you to know about it. |

In my experience, watering it normally and putting down the appropriate fertilizer during the right time of the year is a surefire way to kill it and have it replaced by crabgrass. Pretty much this^ Grass Seed, Water and Fertilizer? Nope, no grass. Chemicals from a sprayer? weeds and grass laugh at me. |

Roundup can be called lots of things.
Glyphosate is the active ingredient and can come in varying strengths. The different strengths are due to varying percentages of the active ingredient. Lots of times this will be referred to as lbs. Two common ones are 2 lb and 4 lb. You only need 1/2 as much 4 lb material to do the job as the 2 lb. material. Typically with glyphosate you would use a 2-4% solution. Stronger then this is just wasting material and less then this you are risking making resistant weeds. Remember that glyphosate is a post emergent herbicide and will only work on plants that are above the soil. If you want to keep the weeds from coming back so soon you need to use a pre-emergent herbicide as well. Some good ones are casaron goal, curb, prowl, and the one I like the best alion. |
