I have the itch for a shotgun. I have owned two rem 870 express tacticals, and one rem 1100 tac 2. While it was a decent shotgun it had some reliablitly issues, the same with the 870's. One model in particular has caught my eye, the Mossberg 930 SPX. I have read about some reliability issues with the 930 but these seem to come from years ago when the shotgun was first introduced. Another one that I am heavily considering is the Mossberg 590A1. the primary reason for both of these is the ghost ring sights and abundance of accessories.
if you were going to buy a new shotgun which would it? |

If I did not already have 2, I would buy a VEPR-12. I have a strong preference for the original fixed stock, which I replaced with a folding collapsible AR stock using a Bonesteele Arms adapter. There is a folding stock version but I don't like the aesthetics of having that stupid looking folder lock button on the left side of the receiver. You can get loads of accessories from Carolina Shooter Supply (CSS) Very, very fun gun to shoot. |

If you are having reliability problems with an 870, you're doing something wrong. I was thinking the same thing about the 870. How many rounds are you going to be shooting? My 930 ran smooth until after the 700 mark, I learned I really had to clean out the gas system for it to function properly. Not just the piston rings, but the inside where the piston goes too. Got tired of the constant maintenance so I went with the Benelli M2. The SG is still new to me, but I haven't had any problems yet. |

If you are having reliability problems with an 870, you're doing something wrong. The Wal-Mart Winchester stuff will sometimes bind in the chamber of a lot of 870s made in the last decade or so. Except for the Wal-Mart WWB junk, I have NEVER had a problem... |

I run a mossberg 500 20" that I had threaded for tru chokes with a hogue shortshot stock. Just slapped a XS big dot sight over the bead (haven't tried it yet). Gun has only has issues with the super cheap winchester universal (hard to eject). Rattle canned FDE with velcro on the left side for true tier 1 status. Probably will have magpul furniture in the future. |
| Go find a 20+ year old 870, not an Express, a Wingmaster. Get yourself a factory 18" riot barrel. Combine. It will operate flawlessly for decades. Get invited to bird hunt ? Reinstall the original barrel or hunt with the 18", I shoot skeet with mine all the time, been doing it occasionally for 40 years. You can still hang a mag tube on it or some of the other toys, you'll just have a slicker working gun to do it on. |

The only tube fed that interests me is a browning A-5, as I really like the looks. That would like end up going the SBS route as well. Longer, more better.
http://oi62.tinypic.com/fder07.jpg Ah.....the Rhodesian FN's! Cool shotguns, I shot a friend's and other than being rather heavy it shot and balanced very well. |
| Everyone has an opinion, mine is I greatly dislike my 930. It's clunky, the ported barrels are stupid loud, and the fit and finish are quite poor. It is mostly reliable and it fits me. The one mechanical issue I have with mine is if you are fiddling with the lifter, you can get it stuck against the bolt and it jams up the gun. Sometimes you can jiggle the bolt a little and get it to release, other times you end up having to drop the trigger group to free it up. |

If you are having reliability problems with an 870, you're doing something wrong. this was my feeling as well. First, I have come to the conclusion that shotguns more or less suck for home defense, and if you had problems with an 870, shotguns may not be for you. I've had 2x4's that were less reliable than my 870's. |

would love one but don't want to drop the coin on it. the rem 870's would get a stuck shell in the chamber after firing making it extremely dififcult to extract. the action would be locked up. Quoted:

Benelli m4 or nothing. would love one but don't want to drop the coin on it. the rem 870's would get a stuck shell in the chamber after firing making it extremely dififcult to extract. the action would be locked up. This is easily fixed. Pull the barrel off the gun. Get you some motor oil or cutting oil, some 00steel wool, a cleaning rod, and a drill. Use the oil on the steel wool on the cleaning rod in the drill. Polish out the rough chamber the Remington came from the factory with. This will solve most of the problems with new Remington shotguns. You can spend more money on proper shotgun chamber polishing kits, but this is the cheap ACE hardware fix. Winchester UNIVERSAL brand shot shells are universally bad in all shotguns. The hull material is thin junk, and the "brass" is thin brittle and breaks easily. |

| Handled a benelli m2 tactical at a gun shop tonight easily the smoothest action I have ever cycled it felt like it was riding on ball bearings. the LOP was a little long but i believe there are after market accessories to remedy this issue. shop wanted 1199 for it which i think is fair since that's how much it goes for on budsguns and they usually have the lowest online prices. Im going to do more research but it looks like i will be going with the M2. |

I only have this issue with aluminum rimmed shells. Especially the shit from walmart. |

Quoted: Found a Beretta 1201FP last month for cheap, and it's pretty nice. Same inertia-drive system as a Benelli, and many parts will interchange with their M1 Super 90. It's fast-cycling, lightweight, and will stomp the shit out of you with full-power loads! Edit: PICS http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq355/Ironhandjohn/1437320094_zpsd3a5ab18.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq355/Ironhandjohn/1437320086_zps47f53f20.jpg I bought mine brand new in 1997. Excellent shotguns- Mine has always been 100% reliable. The 1301 Tactical is awesome, too. Beretta is where it's at for semi-autos. I like Mossberg for pump guns. The placement of the slide release and safety is superior, in my opinion, so a 590 would be a great choice. |

http://oi62.tinypic.com/fder07.jpg I would definitely like a Rhodesian Army FN Auto-5. I do like my Mossberg 590SP. It needs good sights (I'll probably get some ghost ring sights) and a shorter buttstock, though. Then it would be perfect. I wouldn't mind having a side-by-side double with hammers and a couple of combination guns with shotgun barrels, too. |

that quality has dropped in recent years.
