Do virtually all LE agencies require a lie detector test?
If you've ever done drugs, does that pretty much mean you're disqualified right off the bat?
Is there a statute of limitations on how long ago the drug use had to be?  Or how much you did?
Inquiring minds want to know.

No drug use does not necessarily disqualify you, depending on the type of drug used and how long ago. If they find out you lied about drug use I think you are automatically disqualified.

I would guess lie detector use would vary by agency. I would think that large agenices would not have enough time, lie detectors and qualified operators to run everyone through one.

Most will.

Don't lie, though. Most LE agencies are fairly tolerant of prior drug use... most go this way

1. No mary Jane in the last 1-3 years
2. Never have sold any controlled Subs.
3. DUI case by case... odd you get a second trial on this one... Too many judges getting popped I guess
4. No LSD, Psilocybins,(read:Hallucionigens) in the last 5-10
5. No Coke, Heroin, Pcp, Meth, etc...

I have heard of a few agencies that will give 10 years on #5... but shit... That's bad Juju. Good defense attorney will plow that up if the charge is serious enough (they can do backgrounds too).

Edit: Just be truthful, you will not believe what we can dig up on a background check.

FYI: Credit will come into the equation as well... You just need to be honest period. The Polygraph is unchecked (inadmissable) bullshit. Cops are humans, and so are your interviewers. You smoked a joint in college? in High School?
Whoop-de-doo. If you were pulling $500 a day on bags, you might have a prob. If your last J was at a party last week... slow down; because you are enforcing the law...(not selectivly) and give yourselg 6 months to decide if LE is correct. Go to a CJ academy in your state. Good luck bro. Under-paid and definitley not appreciated. But is a lot a fun [:D]

Well, I haven't touched anything more than alcohol in over 10 years.  I had alot of fun in high school, but had quit everything by the time I turned 18.
I'm not really looking to join up, I just wondered what my chances would be if I wanted to.  When (not if, when) the economy goes into the shitter, we'll likey need more LE to supress the dis-enchanted masses.  And, rather than become one of those disenchanted masses, I think I'll try and join up.

I bet a LEO polygraph is easy compared to the "lifestyle" poly's that I've taken.

Third question: "Have you ever had sexual relations with an animal?"

After the exam, the administrator told me that LOTS of guys fail that one! FWIW, the question is designed to show a deviation from "baseline".

I took one w/ the Secret Service.  Not sure if I passed it, but I was 110% honest w/ the wench.  I think they're for all intents and purposes bullshit.  They are far to subject to interpretation by the individual, thus lacking in reproducable results, aka, not very scientific.  It's a great interigation tool if you think someone did something, because it sure does ruffle your feathers, but as for part of a hiring process, I think it's a schamm.

Put a tack in your shoe, man.
It'll be OK.

I've tried it but didn't inhale.

I didn't have sex with that woman under the agreed definition.

Then one day you could also become President of the United States.
