Last 3 times I went to the State forest range in Harts Run, I've encountered the following things:
-dude blowing up a watermelon at 50 yards with tannerite (Covered me, Ar15 and deer rifle in the range house, and he got an awesome bruise from part of the watermelon rind....) -dude shooting target 3 oclock from the front of the rangehouse and his rounds were going over a hiking trail..... ( I saw the aftermath of that one, missed the shooting) -400 pound guy with tapco'd mossberg shotgun and range box of cheap 12 gauge (at least 500 rounds into that box) -Brass and targets left everywhere (have lots of 223/556 I plan to sell soon) Maybe I am old, but I thought it was courtesy to clean up after yourself, and respect others.... I'm still cleaning watermelon out of my pack and ar15 thanks to to the first idiot.... No range officer present..... |

The watermelon thing sounds not cool. So does firing from somewhere other than the firing line.
I wouldn't trust random idiots brass pickups. I also wouldn't hate on Tapco guy if he didn't do anything dangerous or asinine. The guy next to me at the indoor range today was shooting some sort of steel out of his shotgun, as evidenced by the shower of sparks when it hit the backstop. Then he let his kid with no clue how to use a firearm shoot the ceiling 3 times and then finally blow the target hanger off of the trolly. They packed up and bounced fast after that. People are stupid. |

No range story, just a gun show story.
I went to the gun show yesterday, wanted to try and find a extra mag for my 10 mm S&W 1006. I asked around at a few tables and no luck, guys new what I was looking for. I then found a table and the guy had several S&W mags. I asked him if he had any 10 mm mags, he gave me that deer in the headlight look and said whaaaat. I repeated my question, guy was totally dumbfounded, said he didn't know what that was. Here is a guy with a few tables at a gun show with mags , guns ammo and he didn't have a clue what a 10 mm was. ![]() |

I would have a) packed my shit up and left if I had seen what Gallagher was up to b) thanked my lucky stars if I did not vacate the range in time and got splattered by watermelon guts that it was only watermelon...some idjits stupid enough for that nonsense might have tried to see what happens tanneriting a small animal carcass or something |

There are a few locations where the mouth breathing scumbags haven't found Simply untrue, on the face of it. Most BLM desert land is open for shooting. I shoot all over the place on it. The few "official" ranges we have are crapped up with shooting debris. The rest of the public land, where I shoot, is almost pristine. I am careful to leave no trace, whether targets, brass or any trash I create. I wouldn't evel leave footprints, if I could fly. We have several range cleanups a year. The new shooters in the area haven't been socialized to not leave a mess. When BLM rolls up on them shooting glass, TV's and ceramic toilets, they will get their well deserved reaming out. The newbs which move out here need to attend a Charm School, where they learn to use public lands respectfully, w/o abusing them. This goes for the mountain bikers, hikers, motocyclists, shooters, campers, 4x4's etc. The old timers here cause maybe 2% of the damage on our public lands. Fearful Newbs who want to tear up, pollute and dominate the Fearful Mojave Desert are causing 90% of the damage. Science doesn't know what causes the remaining 8%. I blame Obama. |

It's actually just inside of Colorado but Pine Bluffs is the closest town with a gas station and a grocery store. |

Not typical wv..... I grew up in Beckley (shithole extraordinaire) shot at the Beckley gun club for years people never did that...... Lewisburg is an oddity southern gateway to Canaan and Seneca rock so lots of hippies and progressives combined with an element of mine trash (Jesco white types) who live in the armpit of rainelle and travel to Lewisburg to show off there dpms or oly rifles they just customized........ nothing wrong with dpms but when you use it like a retard and destroy shit there is something wrong..... used to be a nice place, but the past few months wow..... Its in bfe and you have to hike to it 1\4mile its 1 lane cleared in a valley its like shooting in a natural tunnel.....
I guess the guys who have been laid off from the mines are taking frustration out but come one, I don't shit in your yard don't shit in mine, is the way I view it..... |

Ha I got in trouble twice at the public range ran by the DNR yesterday.
The first thing was that I bought a gong style self-healing target from Academy and was shooting it at about 20 yards with my pistol and AR15. I had no clue it was an issue. The range officer came out with his bull horn telling me that I had to move that all the way back to the 100 yard backstop. He said that my rounds were hitting the target and going straight up into the air. The second time was that I wasn't leaving 1 second between shots. He got all hot and yelled at everyone, although I wasn't going that fast. I wonder if he wasn't confusing my shots and the AR15 beside me as one weapon going faster. There may have been a couple times I was less than a second but was being completely safe. Ugggh. I need my own land. |

Club range, 2 guys show up, Desert Eagles, I would have sworn a full auto SBR, they started to shoot on the 10yrd berm (50 yrd range was what we were on) and proceeded to break every rule, no cans, water jugs, or none paper type targets (steel ok at a distance) and just start blasting away, missing everything.
I had my daughter with me, we packed up and left, I didn't need to get worked up. We have no on duty range officer. |

I'm surprised a state range allows tannerite and doesn't have a range officer. Sounds like a good way for the state to get sued. PA state ranges do not have range officers. Game Commission agents appear at random to check that you've either got a hunting license or range permit if your using the range. Gotta make their money on people buying a permit or hunting license to go shooting a the state ranges (that used to be free up until a few years ago) or by writing you hefty fines for using the ranges without a permit or hunting license. |
