| Is it just me or did Jackson jump every shark in the sea when he put this shitty trilogy together? |

Couldn't even bring myself to watch part 3. The first two parts were like a soulless cash-in of the original LotR trilogy. If I didn't know any better I'd have guessed that Brett Ratner had directed them. I'm am 1.5 hours into he third installment. I am dumber than when I started. |

leaving it cold cuz meh. But, there is a guy that cut all three movies down to four hours and got rid of all the non-essential fluff.

I just don't understand why??
With LOTR I can see why he had to deviate a little for the sake of brevity. The Hobbit had been enjoyed for decades as a near perfect book. I never spoke with anyone or read a review that said, "You know, it was good, but would have been better if....." Then Jackson comes along to improve on it. It's not like he condensed it. He told just as much story, only a different one. I nearly cried. |
|
I haven't read the books. That said, I enjoyed the movies. Very entertaining and the nostalgia of The Hobbit trilogy when relating back to LOTR was more than enough for me to enjoy them. Yes, I know they changed stuff from the books. Yes, I know they added characters.
I probably won't care until I read the books. |
|
How can some of you call the movie entertaining, even when not comparing to the book?
The effects and CGI were awful. I thought I was watching a GameCube game at one point during the second movie. The action was so boring and unbelievable. Looked like a fucking rollercoaster of over stylized bullshit. The acting was horrendous. I had to go home and watch a Nicolas cage movie in order to clear my mind from it. |
|
Holy crap, am I on Bizarro world ARF? I really liked them. Some of the recurring parts were bad, like Radagast, the romance between the elf/dwarf, etc., but I thought all of the actors were really good.
Martin Freeman was an excellent Bilbo. Thorin Oakenshield was great. And yes, I've read the Hobbit and the LOTR many times. |

Quoted: Is it just me or did Jackson jump every shark in the sea when he put this shitty trilogy together? The book was more of a collection of shorter adventures, not all of those adding massively to the overall development of the characters or the story. A more faithful adaptation of the book would have suited a mini-series episodic approach, with each episode concentrating on one of the specific sub-adventures. Turning it into a film needed some adjustments, it wouldn't have sat well otherwise. I could forgive deviation to make it flow better on screen and tie it into the LotR films, but instead he pinned that story down and buttfucked it into a semen-induced coma. It's a shame. A handful of nice additions and good scenes, but much of it ruined by Jackson pulling a "Lucas" Edited...VA-gunnut |

After LOTR, "The Hobbit" was a big letdown. He stretched it too thin and filled it full of inconsequential junk. Oh, well, anything for a buck. Maybe he'll try "The Silmarillion" next?
At least the scenery was good. (I'm currently re-reading LOTR for the 3rd (4th ?) time. It never gets old.) |

Quoted: Is it just me or did Jackson jump every shark in the sea when he put this shitty trilogy together? I liked the first Hobbit movie. But the 2nd Hobbit was fucking AWFUL. It had all sorts of Bugs Bunny physics, with Elves jumping on people's heads and shooting arrows. It was really really fucking dumb. It was basically a really gay live-action Cartoon. I'm not interested, AT ALL, in watching the 3rd one. |

There and back again
your'e welcome. its a 3 hour fan edit, its pretty good. |
|
#1 you got to remember.....the Hobbit was meant to be slightly more aimed at younger people to begin with.
There's no question Jackson went full Lucas with the Hobbit, I was disappointed, it coulda been a lot better.....but it was "okay". it was NOT....the Hobbit....but it was okay. Kinda like starship troopers, okay movie on it's own....as long as you're not comparing it to the original. The Hobbit shoulda been two movies, trimmed down and it woulda been a lot better. I got to look into that 4-hour trimmed version. Removing a bunch of that crap would be awesome I bet. |

They had a big assist from Beorn................although they didn't choose to elaborate that point very well in the movie, Beorn killed the leader of the goblins and was filled with such rage that he grew to an enormous size and basically destroyed the morale of the goblins
Quoted:
How did the elves, dwarves, and humans turn it around at the end? They were greatly outnumbered before the last army got there with with their bats. So the good guys got some eagles, but they never actually showed them turning the battle around. |

The small role of Beorn in the battle was my greatest disappointment. Beorn was the savior of middle earth. |

Thanks, I will watch this when I get a chance. |

Problem is, Jackson clearly loves the the material (or at least the idea of the material), but doesn't understand it.
The subtleties are totally lost on him, so he goes full on "fan fiction" and beats the audience over the head with a big bag of shit. He did it some with LOTR, and completely lost his mind for The Hobbit. |
|
If he wants to do another LOTR why not just write it himself and not base it on any books? It could be pretty good.
I got the extended version of the first hobbit movie, thought to myself, "will probably just be extended/more fucking singing scenes." Sure enough, more goddamn singing. I hate singing in movies, it's fucking ridiculous. I feel embarrassed for them. I don't want anyone to hear/see me watching that shit. ETA: I posted this before watching the honest trailers and they said something about more singing, haha |
