Leaving in two hours.
Anyone else going to save some lives today? |

I wanted to go but I could not find a place to stay.....got the idea too late. Some buds are riding from MD. There's always places to stay out there. Sure, the 'name' places get booked up but there's a shit ton of mom & pop places that don't show up in Internet searches. Cancellations and folks that leave early, by the middle/end of the week it just gets easier to find a place. All else fails, go to Walmart & buy cheap tent & sleeping bag. throw em away when you're ready to head home if you don't have room to haul em or take to a post office & send em home. Better yet, if you're a real biker, curl up next to the bike in an old blanket. No shortage of places for either of those. All that said, the time to ride the Black Hills is the week before the rally. All the bikes you ever want to see, lots of good folks to visit with but WAY less noobs with brand new motorcycles, that don't know how to ride, go around corners, use the front brake & don't realize drinking beer & riding don't go together. Most of the vendors are set up on Main & Lazelle streets in Sturgis and most everywhere else for that matter. There just isn't the big name bands playing at the campgrounds the week before. There also isn't the s l o w single file traffic through the good roads or the constant sounds of ambulance sirens & life flights for those people I already mentioned. I guarantee, if you've never been there, you've never seen so many single tire skid marks going off so many corners in your entire life... |

Quoted: I don't go north of the Mason Dixon Line. Watch yourself, the cops there will steal your ride, and probably anything else of value, if you have anything illegal on you. |
|
It was the off season, but I stayed in Wyatts Hideaway a few weeks ago.
Very nice campground, the owner was cool as hell, and very cheap. Probably booked, but maybe worth checking if someone up that way needs a place to shake their pecker. ETA: O and straatconsts place is great too. |

As people catch on to the idea, I'm sure it is picking up the week before. We hadn't been during rally for a long time & went last year on a short notice whim. Met some friends in Des Moines & decided to go on out. Only had clothes for a three day trip & no rain suits! Rode into Deadwood & got a room at a place we always liked staying at in the past, too. Luckily missed the rains... Edit to say we got into deadwood on Thurs of the rally week.. |

Luckily missed the rains... It is very busy already because it is the 75th rally. Estimates I have seen range from 800K to 1.2M people going to be here through out 2 weeks. |

Went once in 2009. Had fun, but too many crowds, high prices.
65 now, may put it on my bucket list for one more time. You want a ride. Google "Run For The Wall." I rode the Central Route this May. 10 days across the USA. 3 Days to Get To La from Houston, 3 Days back from DC to Houston. 16 days riding. Right at 6,150 miles. |

A bucket list item of mine is to do an Iron Butt ride to Sturgis. Iron Butt sounded like a whole lot better idea when I was younger..
Came close to 1000 mi days a few times, but totally by accident. Just happened to get further than I'd intended. Had I planned on it & tried to document it, I'd have probably not got near far enough...

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if it does get that big. I know last year was a little short & some were saying they thought that people were holding off for this year, being it is the 75th. To me it's just another number, no biggy. I know I wouldn't want anything to do with crowds that big though |

Yeah, I thought about renting the house out this year, but then I had a crucial thought, "Where the hell am I going to live?" ![]() We have all sorts of family and friends rolling in and out of here during rally week. This year is a big one and I fully expect to get up early Sat morning and have my living room look like the Jonestown Massacre. ![]() |

Quoted: Have not been there for about 6 years, used to ride down there after the bike week and do some touring. Beautiful country and roads to match. Devils Tower and Mt Rushmore in a day, nothing wrong with that at all. ( Plus T-Shirts are real cheap). Hey Cliff, If you decide to head this way for some future rally, let me know, we'll find someplace to rest your head. |

Just, getting over 2 weeks of strep throat. But I'm getting better. Hope you and the Family are doing good. I can't thank you enough for your hospitality. |
| I lived in SD all my life and have been to the rally three times. Before the 1990's it was a very fun place to be, now it's purely too crowded. If you like to walk around hot and sweaty and continuously bump into people, pay $20 for a pork chop and $10 for a cup of lemonade and see cop every 50ft then now is the time to go. It used to be a biker gathering and now it's a giant commercial carnival. I would not go there for anything now days. |

I have been a couple times off and on, he goes religiously. I am going this year because it's the 75th, he wants to go, I have work off, and whatever. I can't imagine being bored there. Beer, boobs, motorcycles, fattening food, and boobs..... Plus I am straight up saving lives by he minute. |

Just go the week before the rally. |

Fuck the Sturgis Rally in the ass with a bale of rusty barbwire. Sounds like a local that knows it's the two worst weeks of the year in the hills. Rolling road blocks and retards. Retards as far as the eye can see. |
| I don't live in Sturgis. Opposite end of the state, actually. I fucking hate the tons of non-gear wearing fucktards on their straight-pipe rolling couches that come Billy Badass-ing their way through my state. Bonus points for getting to usually see at least one with his brains splattered on the road from riding like a fucking moron and not wearing a helmet. |
