There may not be an easy answer due to the fact that the laws and the interpretation of the laws differ quite dramatically between different states or counties or municipalities. Some from your area may be able to shed light on better answers, but I'm afraid that my recommendation is to give your Chief of Police or Sheriff a call. IMHO Also, the decision to carry openly may depend largely on your sense of the general perception of "open carry" in your area. May be just a fine line away from "brandishing," depending upon your neighbors' general level of hysteria. IMHO |

Go here. www.packing.org. Edited to add. Don't carry without a liscence. You can yell 2nd Amendment all you like, but you will do it from a cell and no one will care, and you will never get a CCW. I have a GA CCW. Why wuld you wan't to carry openly anyway? It defeats the purpose. |

Quoted: I was wondering where all do you carry conceled and open. Any adivce? Also would you carry open until you got yout CC? Do you mean where on your person? Or where as in location? If it was location, that would depend on the state. In TX, you cannot carry anywhere that has was we call a 30.06 sign. As well as Fed buildings, schools, bars.... If on your person. There is no open carry of pistols in TX. As far as concealed, I carry either small of back IWB, or right side hip. If its hot. I carry a Keltec P32 clipped to my waist band or in my cargo pants pocket. As far as holsters, might I suggest www.comp-tac.com If TX was open carry, yes I believe I would open carry. While traveling through AZ on my to TX from CA. I opened carry. Even stopped at a gas station outside Tucson to fill up. Did not catch any flack at all. I carried my G19 in my tac holster. |
| Well, in my opinion, I would not open carry. If it was me, I would wait until I got my CCW. Even if it is not a legal issue, it comes down to a political issue. If I walk around with a clearly visible pistol strapped to my hip, I am afraid I would put a bad image on gun owners, that we are reckless vigilantes or something. I would probably convert a couple "independents" or those that do not care one way or the other, to gun-grabbing liberals. I never have my rifles outdoors uncased, unless at the range or hunting. I have a right to carry my AR outside in the open any time I want to, but I case it up so as not to stir shit in my community. Like our policy suggests, maybe you should be a little more "conservative" in choosing to open carry. My $.02 |

Without a license, you can have it, loaded, in the console, the glove box, or lying out on the seat. As soylent_green said, go to packing.org. It is absolutely the best site on the web for carry info. You can get the GA AG's number and call them for verification of what I just told you, but they will agree. |

He saw it, mentioned that he had moved there from Kali, and did not like it that people could open carry. I just looked him dead in the eyes and said "Move your sorry ass back to California if you don't think people should be allowed to defend themselves!", turned around and walked off. He was dumbfounded. |

Virginia is an open carry state (with the exception of a few municipalities) If you do carry open, three things will happen: 1) People that know you (and aren't "gun nuts")will think you're insane. 2) People that don't know you will assume you are a LEO. 3) You'll spend a lot of time talking to real LEOs, explaining why you're carrying - even if it is legal. |

Quoted: 3) You'll spend a lot of time talking to real LEOs, explaining why you're carrying - even if it is legal. That is probably the biggest hassle by carrying in the open. On a side note. IIRC, AZ open carry law allows partial concealment of the weapon. It does not have to be out in the open. I believe, you must expose at least 50%. So you really do not have to be very obvious with it. Of course, I do not live a AZ and do not know their law to the letter. So I could be wrong. |
