i thought this was an insightful article by Andrew Klavan exploring how Republicans are letting their anger at government get in the way of fixing that government.  It rifs off an article by Jonah Goldberg exploring Trump's skyrocketing popularity.  It is a short, light read and well worth the time.

Trumps recent "skyrocketing popularity", is firm proof that there are just as many complete fucking idiots and low info voters on the right as there are on the left.

For Christ sake, look at just here......where the vast majority of people consider themselves to be vastly more informed and knowledgeable about politics than the average person and yet, there is post after post supporting this dolt.

It was eye opening how fucking stupid so many people are.  Sorry, kind of off topic but kind of not (since article is about anger and it really pisses me off lol)

"Leave my undocumented citizens alone!!"

The RNC has exactly ZERO grounds to criticize the base after they've repeatedly fucked us on every issue except guns, since they know damn good and well they could just go ahead and clean out their desks if they did.  We haven't gotten a presidential candidate worth a shit since Reagan and congress is tripping over themselves to hand Obama every piece of his agenda on a platter.

Trump's popularity is due precisely to his addressing issues that most of the other candidates won't touch due to cowardice, PC, or collusion with the enemy.

Trump's rise is due to the fact that he has balls.  It is basic psychology.  No one wants to be led by a pussy.  The man says what he thinks and he doesn't back down.  The Republicans need to realize that their problem isn't their message, it is the fact that RINO's like McCain and Romney come off as pussies.

"Supporting" Trump?  He's not my ideal candidate, but I sure as shit support his position on immigration.  Cruz shilling for TTP and Rand pandering on the Confederate flag have made me have second thoughts about them, but the real question is "Where was all this earnest enthusiasm from the party appartchiks 2 months ago?"  Once again the actual political apparatus Republicans spring into action when something threatens their brand but could give a hoot as long as the DC machine grinds along with "business as usual".

And before we start throwing RINO stones around, let's discuss all the candidates:  Besides Cruz and Paul, every R candidate has a lurid history of supporting big government.

"You can't vote for Trump!  You need to vote for Jeb Bush; he's a serious candidate."

Ok.

The whole thing is such a circus at this point that one may as well support the most entertaining clown.

Right from the article, very beginning.

2007  - “Hillary’s a great friend of mine. Her husband is a great friend of mine. They’re fantastic people. I mean, they’re — you know, the thing, they get a bad knock. She’s a very nice woman. People think, tough, tough. And I guess she’s tough, but she’s a very nice woman. And he’s a very nice guy. We know all about the smarts and how smart they are, and all, but they are good people.”  Donald Trump

Shown multiple sources? Every single thread on Trump's Second Amendment stance I've seen has consisted of two sources - both Trump:  His 2000 book where he stated his support for an assault weapons ban and waiting periods while saying he generally opposes gun control and his 2015 interview where he says that an AR15 is not an assault weapon and that the left calls everything assault weapons.  Given that all of the sources I've seen are Trump talking to us, the only question is which one do I believe when he says something that contradicts what he said earlier - Do I believe earlier Trump?  Or do I believe "I want your vote" Trump?

And if I believe Trump, what recourse do I have if he has another change of heart after I vote for him?  Not vote for him next time and send him back to being a billionaire?  Other than harming his ego, I'm not all that sure that isn't a bit like throwing him back in the briar patch.

I agree with you except on one point.  Is he saying what he thinks or is he saying what focus-group tested voters want to hear?  Because the problem I have with believing that is what Trump really thinks is I've been reading his books since the 80s - and Trump has said a lot of contradictory stuff at different points in his career.  Some of that is to be expected.  I doubt my 13-something-thousand posts on AR15.com are ideologically consistent over a smaller time period.  But it does raise the question of what does he really think?  It particularly bothers me that Trump cannot describe how any of those changes of opinion came about or what caused him to change his mind.  He just skips over the previous statement and steamrolls his interviewer - which is great entertainment; but it doesn't help resolve my doubts any.

That's a textbook defeatist attitude.  You can't do anything about it - so sit and do nothing.  Gun owners seem to be thoroughly beset by it - and I've heard that same thing said when it was talking about fighting against the 1999 Background Check push, the Renewal of the AWB in 2004, and the UBC proposals in 2013.  Every time, the majority of gun owners decided they could do something about it and fought and every time they were right.  So I'm not a big fan of "There's nothing you can do." as an answer.

It isn't like Klavan is asking you to pick up a rifle and go winter at Valley Forge.  He makes some minor suggestions about not letting fear or anger guide your decision making.  That's hardly an approach that is so costly that people can't afford to try it and see how it works or if it can change things.

I think Klavan's point that venting your spleen isn't helping the goal of changing government and may actually be hurting it is dead on.  Lord knows, I've let my inner child have his 2 minute monologue in GD more than a time or two.  I can't think of any of those people who are more likely to adopt the course I suggested.

Get a freakin clue. Trump's popularity here and elsewhere is because of his willingness to say what he thinks (or believes people want to hear), despite it not being PC. And his willingness to STAND-BY his words. Most people don't trust him and think he's an arrogant, crony-capitialistic grand-stander. But the guy is saying some things on the national level that damn well NEED to be said... and that's why he's popular. Same goes for Rush Limbaugh. I really wouldn't want either of them to be my president.... but SERIOUSLY... how could it be any worse than the horseshit we have now???

But the guy is saying some things on the national level that damn well NEED to be said... and that's why he's popular. Same goes for Rush Limbaugh. I really wouldn't want either of them to be my president.... but SERIOUSLY... how could it be any worse than the horseshit we have now???

There's a difference between liking that he's bringing issues into the spotlight and saying you're going to vote for him.  There's been too much of the latter in GD lately.

i thought this was an insightful article by Andrew Klavan exploring how Republicans are letting their anger at government get in the way of fixing that government.  It rifs off an article by Jonah Goldberg exploring Trump's skyrocketing popularity.  It is a short, light read and well worth the time.

No. I'd say the stupid is making us angry. There is absolutely no excuse that the 'establishment' types see very clearly how Trump is rallying his support, and yet continue to ignore the will of the voters.

This is sophistry. It's the chick who refuses to put out whining on her girlfriend's shoulder about being dumped, and calling the other chick a whore.

Lesson SHOULD be: put out or get out. It's simple. Howcome Republicans can't get it right?

Trumps recent "skyrocketing popularity", is firm proof that there are just as many complete fucking idiots and low info voters on the right as there are on the left.

For Christ sake, look at just here......where the vast majority of people consider themselves to be vastly more informed and knowledgeable about politics than the average person and yet, there is post after post supporting this dolt.

It was eye opening how fucking stupid so many people are.  Sorry, kind of off topic but kind of not (since article is about anger and it really pisses me off lol)

Bingo...

Love what he is saying, but don't trust him for shit. Hopefully some others take a clue and get their head out of their ass, but I don't trust any of the others much more.

At this point, if you're NOT angry, you're stupid.

What Trump has done, is show each Republican candidate what motivates the right. Now the question is, who is the candidate on the right who isnt bought and paid for that will have the balls to take up the same fight AND be able to counter the media? Sadly, there may not be one, and that is why people are excited by Trump!

Half of the country are begging for someone to fight back, and the one doing it best is Donald Trump. That's a scary thought. The depth of corruption is staggering, and probably wont end until violence forces it to end.

How can anyone who loves this country not be scared?

I would somewhat agree with this.

People on the left like their bleeding heartedness. People on the right identify more with strength, courage, risk, self-sufficiency, and audacity. Generally speaking of course.

The GOP has 33 declared candidates for President. That's the largest GOP field in decades.  So I am having difficulty seeing how anyone can complain that having that much choice makes for an "awful field" of GOP candidates?  You are unable to find a single candidate you think is worthy out of 33 different people?
