Almost 30... am I the only one in my generation that understands the concept?
Ho-lee-fuk... the amount of debt my friends are in is insane No one pays their rent on time because if someone owns a house large enough to rent a room or has more than one property "they aint broke" Im an asshole for bringing up the rent a week after its due even though I cut it by 40% to help you out... unrelated a chick I was talking to was actually surprised when I didn't invite her on a second date after she explained a bill collector was calling her over a $20 payment she was late on (financed a $250 bed spread) but could go shoe shopping the next day... Most of my friends make 20-35k more than me per year due to the amount of OT they work and still live paycheck to paycheck. I dont get it... /rant |

My daughter and POS SIL listed me as a creditor in their bankruptcy. We gave them $1000 to help them through a rough patch.
They are still broke and living comfy in the rough patch they call life. I don't get it. Debt is the devil and you, OP are heading in the right direction. Good on you. |

I'm in my 40's and I can tell you it didn't "miss" my generation.
I have friends in debt that I know they will NEVER be able to get out of. I've seen more than one lose a house, car get repossessed, spouse not work for years on end, and yet they can afford cigarettes and tattoos. |

Try renting a nice home with the renters finding out you live in a really nice home. They always seem late on their payment "because you can afford it" mentality. |

personal responsibility is severely lacking in the great majority of people these days It is actively discouraged in all aspects of American life. I wonder what percentage of Americans are just waiting for a lawsuit to fall in their laps to get rich off of. |

I'll be 30 this September, and I feel the same as you do. I look at where some of the people I grew up with and other peers are at in their life, and then take a look at what I'm doing, where I've been, and what I have ahead of me and it's baffling to see just how different my wife and I are compared to them. Part of it is a little luck, but otherwise my wife and I have worked our butts off to get where we're at. Sure both the vehicles we drive are 10+ years old, but we own them out right and we might not have all of the toys typical for our area (5th wheel, ATV's, etc.), we are able to get out and enjoy ourselves without having to worry. Our kids might not each have all of the 'coolest' toys, but they certainly don't go without and they're always the best dressed in their classes and tend to be some of the better behaved ones to boot. Responsibility is tough, it's kinda scary and it's a big commitment, but it has a great payoff. |
