Previous owners planted the wrong grass in large patches all over backyard (circled area in pic is some sort of grass that lays flat, doesn't stand vertical).
When I usually work on lawns, I would tear out grass/roots by hand, new dirt and seed.
Is there an easier way of doing this? Can I rent a power tool to help?

Kill it off with Roundup? Wait for Roundup to neutralize and replant?
Not a lawn expert but I listen to Andre' Viette.

You can rent a sod cutter from many home depots. Turns a 1 day job into a 1 hour job.
