Has anyone heard where/how the Charleston shooter obtained his weapon? If he got it from a licensed dealer, why didn't the Instant Check system pick up his arrest and pending court appearance for possession of Suboxone (an opiate narcotic)? The Feds seem to have been awfully quiet on this subject, which they would be if the Instant Check failed.
On another note,I am so proud of the people of Charleston for the way they have responded to this terrible incident. If it had happened in Ferguson, Baltimore, or Chicago, the fires would still be burning. Instead of igniting a race war, Roof only succeeded in bringing in bringing Blacks and Whites in that old city closer together. But then, I am talking about a completely different class of citizens than in the previously mentioned cities. |

Quoted: My mother, or was it a random GD'er, taught me never to trust a 13er with a low post count. What are the odds of TWO '13's with low post counts showing up? Low. Real fucking low. That whole "we're talking about a different class of people" thing doesn't sit right with me for some reason. |
| I agree about the people of Charleston. What a moving, incredible display of grace, tolerance and humanity. These are people the media should be holding up as models for us all, instead of Freddy Gray, Michael Brown and Eric Garner. I cannot say that I would respond with the dignity the survivors have, and it's a tribute to those who died that they left their courage with them. |

Suboxone is a Schedule III opiate. I don't know if that would be a felony or misdemeanor in SC. Seems that street drugs bring out the worst in people. Its been posted in numerous threads even a photo of the court docket or something. It was a misdemeanor. |

In RI you get the Fed check and you get a local check from the CLEO in the town you are purchasing the firearm in. Plus a full 7 day wait. Presumably the CLEO would have caught it, if it was here in RI and then made a call as to whether or not to proceed. Yeah well, fuck Rhode Island. |

From Shooter's Choice in West Columbia, SC. They probably will need some help in the form of extra business over the next few weeks. I'm sure a lawsuit is in the works. If the gun was purchased legally I don't believe they have a legal problem. Remember the frivolous Newtown Lawsuit; the plaintiffs got hit with paying for the defendent's legal expenses. |

True, but in the meantime they might have lots of legal bills until it gets thrown out. Plus the negative publicity might cause them to shut down for a while, although I wouldn't expect that to happen to a gun store in SC. It's sad: They did nothing wrong, but the Media and the anti-gunners are probably going to hound them anyway. |

I remember reading that his parents got it for him His uncle, but I'm pretty suspicious of OP and am betting that he's somewhere making an argument for universal background checks and ignoring the fact that Roof would have passed such, or the uncle comitted a crime in giving a gun to a prohibited person thus demonstrating the futility of such. |

Quoted: There is a federal law that shields them from liability so long as they acted within the law. Quoted: Quoted: I feel sorry for them. Run a legitimate business and run the risk of getting sued because some racist whack job decides to go postal in a church. There is a federal law that shields them from liability so long as they acted within the law. Indeed. But that won't stop the death threats or negative publicity or vandalism or lost business that might be coming their way from rabid anti-gunners. Admittedly, I wouldn't expect to see much of that in South Carolina. If the store was in New York, they'd probably be out of business right now. |

When I first read the title I thought you were asking where to buy a Dillon roof gun. I did not know the name of the shooter.

I have to ask , but what skin does have a canuck have in this game worrying about what he meant with what he said? Perhaps the judgment of different social classes of people in "this" country should be left to those of us that actually live here ehh? |

who cares. someone in the church should have scoped him out and returned fire the moment he made a move. You CANNOT prevent people from being evil. the best you can do is stop them quickly This is the best response. Laws cannot be relied upon to prevent crimes (Some people [like me] are deterred but many aren't). They are best used to define what crimes are and then to dispense punishment if a crime occurs. I saw nothing in the original post that concerns me. Unless there have been a history of questionable posts. Then again a lot of those people we are speaking of start out sounding fine but can't keep up the charade. |
