Wife and I went to an auction Saturday near Winchester, VA. I ended up with a US Model 1861 contract musket. Made by Trenton Locomotive & Machine Works. Marked "US TRENTON" on the lockplate. Dated 1863 on the lockplate and barrel. Both wood and metal have been cleaned but not buffed or wire-brushed. Marked "NJ" on both barrel and wood stock. One of the nicest muskets I've ever seen
Got it for $350 plus buyer's premium and tax, total of $408.10 Not sure exactly what it's worth, but it's got to be more than what I paid. |

Quoted:
Civil war rifle I presume? Yep. There were over 20 contractors that built these muskets for the US during the Civil War. If you go to Wikipedia and put "1861 Springfield" in the search block, you'll find a lengthly article about them, complete with a pic. Sorry I have no pics at this time. Will try to post them later. |
