Summary: Fiat approached GM, GM told them to get bent, now Fiat is lobbying hedge fund folks to get all activist and force GM to play ball.

Not just dumb,  you can see when he is talking about it.   FCAU for the last 3 months.

As a vendor to the Automotive industry, I know new model projects as FCA have dramatically slowed this year.  With his main talking point being development costs, and the apparent pullback in development FCA is doing, I see the end result being a company that is even further behind than it was before he started this.

Just to show where they stand, I believe FCA is the largest auto company without any hybrid market presence.

Dont really understand the Fiat hate, this isnt the 1970's anymore. As far as I hear from the people who drive them here they are a great bang for the buck and as reliable as any car on the market.

Besides that the in house tuned Abarth models just feel special if you like a good handeling FWD car.

As a Mopar guy I would rather Chrysler die than have another merger. Diamler and then Fiat mergers didn't help the brand.  Need to sell to out to someone who loves the heritage and automobiles of the company and quit trying to be all things to all people.  Hyundai built a car company from scratch in less time than Chrysler has been trying to reinvent itself.  YMMV.

There is a rumor some of their stuff have reached their limits as far as meeting, or being able to meet crash standards. Basically, their platforms are ancient as fuck and have reached their band aid limit on meeting standards.

Yeah, Ford really is on the top of their game.

It only took them 15 years to beat the LS1 with the Coyote, stock for stock. They eventually went with IRS on the Mustang again. Changing turbodiesels every 2-3 years through the 2000's because they couldn't hold themselves together was pretty cool--diversity is the spice of life.  A run of non-superduty F250's with 7-lug axles was an awesome move.

No, they did not beat Chevy
Here's 2015

Here's 2014

Edit: so they did better in 2013, but they sucked in 2011, 2012, 2014. And ram wasn't around in 2010, but Dodge was and they sucked then too. Nice job of cherry picking data though. Do you happen to have a job with them?

Giving Chrysler to Fiat was a wonderful idea.

My guess is that it will get sold to the Chinese or Indians (dot not feather).

The best asset Chrysler offers them is an established presence in the US market with a dealership network.

Jeep and the pickup truck divisions will probably continue to be of value but the automobile division has been a drag for quite awhile.

New Asian owners will add their own lines like Fiat thought they were going to do with the Fiat 500 (the Obama-car no one here wanted).

Just my WAGs.

Changing diesels every 2-3 years? From 99-03.5 there was the 7.3 followed by the 6.0 from 03.5 to 07. The 6.4 picked up from 08-10 and the 6.7 has been running strong since then.

Problems aside, they still sold, and continue to sell, more trucks and GM and Ram.

Jeep is not what it used to be, and Ram trucks are the cheapest built POS vehicles out there.

If not for Cummins Ram would have no relevance in the market what so ever.
