You guys see this yet?  Army ad for Special Forces.  Check out the E6's weapon.  What's wrong with this pic?

"Sergeant, my 68 won't zero!"  ...special my ass.

All the highspeed operators mount their aimpoints backwards.

Is there a 10th SF group?

Funny. I saw an "Army of One" bumper sticker the other day up here. It was in Spanish.

When I was at 1/75th, the motto wasn't Sua Sponte, it was, "Why be a buddy, when you can be a buddy fucker?". Somebody had my back alright.

Since when can E4s go through the SFAS and not emerge as E5 when they hit their unit?

There is a 10th SFG.  I think they're in Carson and Germany.  Not 10th Mountain raven.  Never heard of a E4 on a team either.  These guys are probably support MOS's.  Any E6 on a team who didn't realize his 68 was backwards should be kicked in the junk.  The whole COC that approved this pic should be relieved.

yeah, there are 5 Regular Army and 2 Army National Guard special forces groups:

1st Special Forces Group
3rd Special Forces Group
5th Special Forces Group
7th Special Forces Group
10th Special Forces Group
19th Special Forces Group [ARNG]
20th Special Forces Group [ARNG]

The scary thing is that this didn't suprise a lot of us when we saw it (this ad was in Maxim).  While we were deployed I watched an 18B try to load 7.62 x 51 into an RPK for about 15 minutes.  My buddy finally had to go over and set him straight. I also failed an 18E at the commo station during EIB testing a couple years ago because he couldn't put a radio together correctly.  NO one's perfect but come on!

Hmmm, I was wrong again.

Thought it was 10th mountain because I've seen an "Army of One" commercial with a bunch of 10th mountain soldiers climbing a mountain in CO, in winter gear.  I thought this was taken from that promo.

I read this post and remembered that commercial, and that there was something in that commercial that bothered me. I finally remembered, IIRC, he used his GPS side by side with his compass. A GPS side-by-side with a compass can cause an incorrect reading. I remember also reading an anonymous letter from a Major decrying the army of one policies that were causing him no end of trouble with poorly trained replacements.

Okay Okay Okay!
Army of One was a bad idea, and Shineski is gonna pay for that one for as long as he lives.

But, at least they're not fighting dragons or chess pieces. [;)]

Just curious... so what would you see if you look through an aimpoint the other way??  is the red dot still visible?

The E4 is probably part of the MI Det for the group.  They have SOT-A teams that are all MI and COMMO guys.  Some of the MI folks that get assigned to these teams need a little work to get them up to speed. Big difference doing intercepts in an airconditioned van, totally different to do it out in the bush.

S_G is all about bashing the rangers. [rolleyes]

Sua Sponte, when I was in 3/75th did and still does mean, "of our own accord."

Sorry you had a rough stint, S_G, most joes have a very positive one.

Nothing anyone can say or do will help alleviate the bad experience, but the vast majority of current and former rangers are quite proud of that time in their military service.

My guess is that these guys are from the GSC (Group Support Company). Not long tabbers...

When I joined in '82 they were taking 'cruits straight into the Q course after basic (well, basic, ait, jump then Q). That was before they had their own career branch. SF-qualified then was just a skill identifier on your regular MOS. I heard they were back to that program again, so it's likely you'll see 18-series that may even be PFC.

I am not bashing, this was what I experienced.

Oddly, I have almost always heard this from guys who were 3/75th, almost never fom 1/75th or 2/75th. The ones from 1st or 2nd with good experiences were almost always HHC. 3/75th is too close to RGT to treat their troops the way the 1st and 2nd do. Don't forget that.

Nothing anyone can say or do will help alleviate the bad experience, but the vast majority of current and former rangers are quite proud of that time in their military service.

Reporting maltreatment has nothing to do with pride of service.
