Ford Escort Zx2, with 283k miles on the clock.

Developed an overheating issue.

Replaced the thermostat.

Replaced the cracked thermostat housing.

Still there.

Either:

1.  CCRM module (expensive)

2.  $20 sensor

The fan wasn't turning on.  It would turn on when the a/c came on, which it wouldn't do if the CCRM was kaput.

$20 sensor for the win!

Icing on the cake:  Ford put it right on top of the engine.  Less than a 10 minute job.

My first car was a 1973 Honda Civic.  When the fan switch failed, I did an expedient fix by wiring up a toggle switch on the dashboard.  When the temperature rose, or when I came to a stop in traffic, I'd turn the fan on manually.
