Those look like blanks in that belt (don't see the bullet ends sticking out). I haven't watched the show yet but if I recall correctly, most of the good clear footage of fighting from WWI was actually from training and reenactments. Nobody really wanted to lug a camera over the parapet to turn around and film the guys going over the top when bullets were flying

Watched them. Thought they were well done...
The third movie was interesting, in that the mechanic was conscripted to help fix tanks, and some of the other troops were jealous that he had avoided the conflict until then... Then in the end, they made it. Must have felt amazing... |

WTF was up with the tank exhaust practically killing everyone in the tank all the time? I think I heard the mech say something like it was a design flaw??? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I read a book which covered WWI tanks, and it mentioned that more than once a whole crew would pass out. |

I watched all three episodes over the past few days. I thought they were very well done. I know that some take issue with the music, but I think that was a conscious choice to make The Great War feel more contemporary and "real" like it was to the persons of the time... and I think it worked.
I sure hope that they made / will make more episodes. I'm glad that they chose accounts from the beginning, middle, and end, but I'm sure that there are many more engaging accounts to be told. Kudos, BBC. |
