Living in VA/DC, everything is pretty repetitive. Tourists see Marine One, are in awe, and wonder if the President is aboard. You just see it as a noisy helicopter (no matter who is POTUS)
But every year during Memorial Day weekend, Rolling Thunder rolls into town and is by far one of the coolest things you get to see. Got to see a bunch of them roll past Arlington this morning, nothing like it.

| I agree with OP. Rolling Thunder is one of the coolest things that happens in DC area. Washington Post photos. I don't have a bike, but if I did, I'd love to join up in that one day. |

I disagree. That constant noise all weekend is damned annoying. What's the point of the motorcycle fest anyway? Bunch of aging adolescents. What a suprise that you would make a comment like that. Because it's true? |

Lots of the RT folks stay in my town at the motels. I'm 60 miles west of DC so I guess it's cheaper than staying closer in.
Never a issue I've seen or heard tell about.....Other than when they leave to hit I-66 east. I live on the edge of town so they are hitting their stride when they pass my house. I sort of enjoy watching them pass by.
A lot of the bikes are trailered to the motels so they come back into town to stay and load them back up and leave the next morning. |

When I lived in DC, I hated the noise and traffic and BS associated with rolling thunder. The participants all claim that it's to honor the troops but in fact it's nothing more than an excuse to ride your bike, disrupt traffic and try to park wherever you want. Always loved to see those guys illegally parked getting tickets. Want to honor vets? Donate to veterans organizations. Riding a motorcycle doesn't do squat to help them or to honor them. Btw, I am a vet. |

I fired up the Harley and tore down the main boulevard first thing yesterday morning. Somebody in a lifted truck with a big American flag flying from the back followed for several miles. We had our own little rolling thunder thing going.
I think last year the same thing happened. It was like it was meant to be. |
