| I had a flat on my tire yesterday, and the tire shop screwed me over today it looks like im stuck on a spare for the weekend. I get a discount on tires at work but the ones I need are out of stock and wont be in until tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Im not taking any trips this weekend, but am I ok going to the store and the gym as long as Im not driving like an idiot? |

I don't have the reliability data but if you come to Memphis we can start collecting data, never seen so many people hauling ass down the interstate on 1 (or more) space saver spares.
From the condition of the cars this is probably the last new tire those poor vehicles are going to see. |

I wouldn't imagine very long, if we are talking about a donut. I saw a guy going 85mph on one last week. ![]() They don't last too long. I think they are rated for 50 or 100 miles at 55 mph. The doughnut I had in the Oldsmobile 88 had a blue wear strip imbedded in the rubber. When that blue pigment was gone, it was no longer "safe" to drive on. |

The owners manual will tell you what your spare is rated for. I tend to go find a fullsize spare for my vehicles even if the rim is different. If I had something newer the space saver would get me home to swap to that until I dealt with whatever went flat. Speaking of that. Does your tire just need plugged? Buy a plug kit and little air compressor if you don't have em. The shop can later still pull your plug and patch and plug it if you want that. Lots of folks run around on the little space saver spares but as I recall they are not made for much use. |

Yeah, I think it's 50 miles at low speed on a donut. |

The shop plugged a nail hole but the sidewall was leaking and was out of air by the time I got home. I get a good discount on tires through my employer so il save quite a bit of money if I can hold off until I go back to work Tuesday. |
Im going to need beer tonight though
