doing a little rust repair with POR 15 later today
Anyone have tips, tricks, suggestions? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I love POR 15, but like with any paint, prep is key. You don't necessarily have to use their "marine clean" which is a mild acid etch, but make sure you don't have any loose chunks, so hit whatever you are painting with a wire wheel, wire brush, scotchbrite pads/disks, etc. to clean it up. Degrease it twice, don't touch it with bare fingers after degreasing (use acetone, alcohol, MEK, MPK to degrease). Paint it on and let it cure fully before you mess with it.
POR15 will sun fade badly unless you topcoat it with a UV resistant paint, do that while it's tacky if you want to do that. |

POR15'd a rusted bumper about a year ago, top coated per instructions, rusting again this year. What type of bumper? Chrome stock one, aftermarket, tube, plate? Did you completely encapsulate the rust? If so I'm surprised, my bumper held up great after bead blasting and painting with POR. It was a tube type, old school smittybilt. |

Painted oem bumper, aggressive flap disc'd the entire thing to bare metal, cleaned and decreased, coated completely, painted, year later it's beginning to look just as shitty as it did. |

Is the paint chipping or peeling, or is rust just coming through the paint? |
