Wife and I are older and our dogs are our babies. Both were killed by a bear two days ago. The little one attacked the bear and our big fella went after him protecting her. Bless you Toby and Jess... I always hug my kids and tell them I love them whenever I can and I did the same with my babies...Life is short, sweet and sometimes sad.. |

That dog had courage and loyalty. I wouldn't think any less of you if you took a shot at that bear. I would do the same, if given the chance. |

I won't try to armchair quarterback what happened, I understand that there are still places in America where it is fitting for dogs to run loose, as mine did when I was a boy. We are older now as well, and our dogs live in a yard or on a leash these days, and we certainly love them as you did yours. Your good dogs knew that you loved them, and are waiting for you further on up the road. If you are inclined, I hope you whack that damn bear a good one and end his dog killing days, if you are not, then live and let live, I suppose enough blood has spilled... Treasure the memories of your faithful dogs. |

Oh OP, Dear God, I pray for you and your wife. Stay strong brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you. There is a greater reason for everything that happens. Stay strong. Those dogs loved you as much as you loved them. You are blessed to have experienced and felt such. God bless. (at this point in our lives our dogs are our children too) PM me if want. Be strong. They likely saved you and your wife. |

Thank you for the kind comments. We live very rural in a forest and have been here with minimal issues with the bears for almost 25 years. But this year it has been different with the drought and the bears woke up early to an empty larder. Two weeks ago a bear destroyed my chickenhouse but spared most of the chickens. The dogs were defending their turf. I know the bear and he will be back and he will be dead.. |
