Howdy all. I'm looking to add a quality 2AA LED flashlight to my daily carry. I've been carrying a Surefire 6P but would like some variety in battery requirement. High and low beam and tailcap switch would be a big plus.
Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. TIA, Ray |

I use a Nitecore 2AA light everynight at work. They make a good flashlight. I've also used Fenix and FourSevens AA lights in the past and they were great.

streamlight protac 2AA I've got one I've carried for 4 or 5 years now. great light Buy with confidence. I have two. My wife has one in her night stand and liberated my other one for her desk at work. I use the PT2L for work for the extra lumens and its a little shorter but the 2A is no slouch |

I occasionally carry the 1AA version with a 14500 battery in it. it's the same guts as a 2AA. it may not be technically rated for it, but it works great. it's brighter than the 2AA I own both |

If a great AA LED flashlight is what you seek, then a KLARUS P2A is what you're after. I have one that I use multiple times per day every single day. I carry and use it daily since I bought it over 6 months ago and I love this tough little light. Lives on my belt and has been dropped multiple times and been rolled around on in the dirt and mud while working on vehicles or whatever.
Has a high & low settings, and a momentary push or click to stay on tailcap button. To switch between high or low you turn the head of the light slightly to switch between the settings. It's atleast as bright (but seems brighter) than both my TLR1s and PA WML. The light was $38 delivered to my door so not expensive IMO. And while I doubt it'll happen anytime soon in the off chance I somehow manage to finally kill mine I'd gladly buy another. |

I use my lights for up close EDC work or reading on white paper at night. Anything over 200 lumens is unwarranted for my tasks but if you need the throw and beam, CR123's have there place. All the manufactures listed so far are good. When talking about 2AA lights, they usually go hand in hand with users looking at low prices. So "made in china" is inevitable. Still, you can find quality lights with great warranties.

If by "flavors" you mean excellent alternatives to the Maglite with a huge variety of options and configurations, then yes.

This is what I use. I guess it doesn't meet the current flavors though. Quoted:

Yes, I know LED Lensers aren't the cheapest out there, and their headlamps are garbage but we rely on the P6 range to get anywhere in the bush, the latest incarnation - the P6X is a stunner:
http://www.ledlenser.com/uk/flashlights/p6x/ We use them because all our other equipment runs on AA batteries(VHF, GPS, Strobes), so only carry one type of battery which covers all of them and can be interchanged between all the devices. |

I guess what I meant was they are at lowes for $25 on a bad day, work flawlessly for me, but mostly I don't care what is hot in the flashlight world. |

For the same $25, you can get a light online that is brighter, has a high/low beam feature, tailcap switch, etc. For some reason the retail store flashlights are all sticking with the side switch, and usually plastic cased so they need to be larger to dissipate the same heat from a bright bulb. |

Nothing wrong with surefire 6p.
More compact than a 2aa. Better, bigger grip. 2aa feel like holding a pencil. You can drill out the body and run a 18650 cell in it. The module replace with a malkoff devices. If you really want aa batteries, get a sf 9p. It will run either on 3x123 or also on 2aa, *if* you use a lower powered module like malkoff m61L. Low means 100 lumens but you get 6 hours on lithium aa. |

If it HAS to be AA, then I heartily recommend NiteCore. I had a D10 that was the shit, until it dropped out of my pocket on the bus and was lost. Otherwise, my SureFirs E1B is my daily carry... The battery typically lasts a year or so before needing to be replaced. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I like the Fenix E11, but I think it's discontinued. The new version is the E12. I have both, I don't like the E12 as much.
Maybe not a true tactical light, but damn, I carry it everywhere and use it for everything. Its small enough to hold in your mouth and work on something without feeling like someone is trying to shove a dick down your throat. |
