Not personally nor do I have knowledge of the unit shown but these types of units are used alot around here.  Guys take their dogs out and let them run game.  They use the unit to signal them to come back.

One night my family and I settle down in the boat to go asleep.  Then like in the jaws movies, we here plop, plop, plop.  I get up go on deck and there is one hell of a nice Red Tick hound.  We're in the middle of the bay.  I pull him aboard and wait.  A few minutes later a bass  boat pulls in the cove.  "You lost a dog?"  "Yea, is his ear torn?" "No" I say.  "Not my dog then."  About an hour later another bass boat pulls in and it's their dog.  The dog was trained to go to the boat when shocked and he mistook our anchour light for his masters boat.

It's quite a hoot to hear these fine animals bellowing in the dark as they chase the game.

I personally like the Dogtra collars better.  I have a 1200ncp.   I like the paging feature alot!  This is all you may need. The fact that I can increase intensity without releasing the current is a huge bonus.

I work with alot of dogs and handlers.  Some prefer the tritronics, some work with Dogtra.

I like the Dogtra but both are good e-collars.

Waldo,
I have, let me tell you my story, my wife and I adopted a 1 year old dog from the the North Shore Animal League, this dog turned out to be the worst mistake we made (at that time), she was aggressive, did not listen to us at all, I wanted her out of my house, but my wife had already fallen for her and we decided to send her away for 4 weeks to be trained, at a cost of $1,500.00 At the end of the 4 weeks she was great with the trainer but not with my wife, the trainer suggested the collar and Oh boy what a difference it made.
Whenever she did not listen or did something wrong, we will use the sound first and then we'll zapped her, I know it sounds cruel but you won't have to do it all the time, we used it for maybe 2 weeks, do not get scare if the dog wimps a little, the dog is more surprise or scare than in pain, my dog now is the great companion that we always wanted, gets alone with every body, once in a blue moon all we do is put the collar on and the dog knows she has to behave, get one that comes with sound and zapping, also different levels of power, even though if the dog is doing something that is really bad, like growling at a child, you do not want to use the sound or a low level power, you want to ZAP the dog with the max, and the dog will never do such a thing again. I found out it was the best thing for dogs that otherwise will end up in the streets or back in the pound waiting for the next victim to adopt her. By the way my dog had gone through 3 adoptions and rejections before we got her. we were her last hope! I am glad we found each other.
PS I bought mine at an auction at Ebay.

Nothing in the world teaches a dog more than elec, used it with a lot of common sense. Common sense being the key word, I have never, never had to use it more than a few times to show the dog the way.

Thanks for the info guys. The dog isn't too bad, I just want to start working him off leash. He's got quite a nose and I'm sure he'll be off on the first deer track he cuts.

BTW, that unit comes with a pretty good training video too.
