Going to re-skin my decks as the pressure treated decking is starting to go after 10 years...
Trex Transcend or TimberTech Earthwood Evolutions? Price wise they're about the same Around $4 per linear foot... Going to be using 20' sticks, since the main deck itself is exactly 20' long meaning no butting... Any reason I should use one over the other? Likely going with the greyish colors of both. Main concerns are mold, and lots of moisture/rain. This is WA. |

We used Trex in my last house...looked great brand new, but within a few weeks in VA, had developed quite a bit of discoloration from what I can only guess was dirt, fungus, and/or mold. Frequent power washings helped. Uniform discoloration or just fading? |

| The early Trex was terrible. I was an early adopter and had the same fading and discoloration problems. Even worse, in the heat of a Georgia summer the Trex sags between the joists. It was installed per their instructions and joists were on proper center spacing. I added another small deck and used a Georgia-Pacific product that was a far superior product, much more rigid and easier to work with. In all fairness though, I saw some of the latest Trex products at a home show last month that looked much better than what I bought, more like the GP stuff. |
