I work for a company that does EPC work. I'm contracted out right now to a very large company. After about 9 months of busting my ass, the company who I am contracted to wants to hire me on full time in a supervisor position. Huge jump in pay and a great move for my career. I am still waiting to finalize some negotiations to notify my current employer.

This weekend I get a text from another contractor saying our supervisor caught wind that I am planning to jump ship. I am not sure how to approach the situation. The new company will set my start date so I can't exactly just step up and give my notice yet. The woman who will be my new boss and I have a great relationship. I have already emailed her to assist. It's not exactly a secret at the new company that I was selected. What say ye hive?

If your approached be honest with both sides. You have the right to work for who you want to.

This.

You need to look out for yourself. You have a golden opportunity to advance. I would run with it.

If you can grow in experience and pay,

it is a win for you.

Uhhhh, most contracting firms have a contractual right to get money if you get hired by the customer.  Didn't you sign something?

IANAL.

I imagine it's in the agreement that we have with the new company. In the last month 3 others have made the move over. I am just used to these situations being more delicate.

IMO, your new boss-to-be should be aware of this and know what they need to do - your current employer should have structured said deal so they're not unhappy if you move...  I'm concerned because it sounds like this might not be the case - and you DON'T want to be "that guy" who looks like he tried to get around the system....  Just be careful.

Engineering, procurement, construction. Large companies who have several ongoing projects will hire EPC vendors to handle the scope. The large company can run a smaller staff, acting as project management and oversight.
