Is this a thing now? I just saw some people with something like this for their dog. Why can't the dog jump?

I can't get my perfectly healthy, fully grown GSD to jump in the back of my full size 4x4 truck.  Picking him up sucks because he's 100 lbs and sheds awful.  Pretty rough on the joints, too, I'd imagine.

I had the same problem with my retriever. He could jump into the back seat of the wife's car, and in his younger days could climb into the cab of my pickup, but no way could he get into the bed.

I have steps for my rottie. He's 11 and has the desire to go for a ride, but can't get into the cars or truck like he used to.

Eh.  I only had to lift mine into the truck a couple of times before he figured it out.

But he actually loves riding in the truck.   That's number one on his favorite activities, ahead of tennis ball retrieval and chasing small animals.

If I make three consecutive steps toward the truck, he runs over to the passenger door and sits down, waiting for me to open the door for him and tell him "hop in."

When my Lab was young and strong, she would jump into the bed of my truck to go for a ride.

When she was around ten years old, she became a little arthritic and could no longer manage it, so I would pick her up and put her in the back... and then be covered with yellow hair.

Dog steps are intended for older dogs. If they had them back then, I would have bought one.

Dogs ask very little from us except the occasional chance to get their nose in the wind.

I am not too worried about that, but the little pet steps they have so that rodent dogs can get into bed with them are creepy.
