| If only one these species survived the apocalypse, which would you prefer it to be? |

Anything that isn't bacon is better from a cow. It pleases me that people remain ignorant to the clear superiority of beef ribs and beef brisket over pork. Leaves more for me. Have some more pulled pork, pig peasants. Beef master race. Fucking beef ribs? Oh, you Texans. You silly, silly Texans. You're right though bub, keep on eating those beef ribs. Leave the pork ribs alone, prices are high enough already. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's best just to stick to the cattle for milk production/the occasional calf or yearlin to slaughter. For them to be your primary meat source would be a poor choice. My pick, hogs and chickens at the minimum. Stupid easy to raise both so why just one? They aren't going to compete. If I was sure to have the resources, all three. It's been done that way for hundreds of years afterall |

Pigs are more useful, but the fact that they eat anything makes them key vectors of disease. Ability to generate methane would be handy in the apocalypse.
Cows eat lots of grass, grass is very good gatherer of contaminants. Longer growth cycle than pigs, would need more acreage to feed. Droppings more easily burnt for heating when dried. Chickens, good at keeping bug and other vermin down, easy prey for predators however. Lack of good seed sources may doom them. They produce eggs and can produce many more offspring easily, almost exponentially. What we'll likely end up with? Pitbulls. Not terribly good eating, meat too tough. Dangerous and prone to eating owners and innocent bystanders. Also they poop, and it's not worth a shit. |

Cows by a long shot. Beef, milk, milk equals cheese, sour cream, half and half, butter. Also, they can be used for labor, tilling fields, pulling stumps, carts. Horns can be used for cups and trumpets if you're into the viking lifestyle. Leather also as has been said. Can make tallow as well. Fertilizer.
Chickens would be second. Meat, eggs. Feathers for fletching and pens. Feathers also for insulation in clothing and pillows. Fertilizer Pigs last. Meat , leather. Fertilizer. ETA: damn it. post 223 on this. |

for those suggesting pigs and cows.
remember this is in a shtf scenerio. do you really want to try and divide the bulk of your energy and time to caring for livestock? or would rather have some time left over for gardening, irrigation, perimeter defense, hunting, fishing, scavenging, ect ect.... |
