[ARCHIVED THREAD] - LARPing (Page 1 of 3)
I did it once. A friend way way into it and hosted many a party. I went and it was....strange..but fun. Not something I could get into but I saw the amusement, and could see people wanting to do it regularly. Ours was a steam punk setting in the future, and my friend, knowing my affinity for guns, made my character named Walker. I was a Texas Ranger looking for a space arms dealer to arrest. So I wore a duster and introduced myself as Walker Texas Ranger all night. It was amusing, and some of the girls outfits were.....interesting But like I said. Not really something I wanted to get into. |

So I saw something on this yesterday. And for all you Pervs it is not sex. It is "Live Action Role Playing." It is the biggest group of nerds I have ever seen. Check out the larping in your home town. Post funny pics you find. http://www.larping.org/ http://41.media.tumblr.com/50c7b516820e566d5effd670f485aa40/tumblr_n3b1stvb941t5yc02o1_1280.jpg Know how I know you haven't been to SDCC/D*C/Celebration? |

No different than the SCA. I have a family member who recently joined the SCA. She and her husband are having a lot of fun with it. She's in the process of building her own armor with the help of an experienced armorer/blacksmith, and it looks pretty awesome. I honestly might try it if I didn't have a bad back.

| There were some kids that I think were SCA geeks down the block from my old house. Occaissionally they would fight on the little lawn outside the house with their wood swords and armor that was made out of rug, I think. I guess at least they were getting exercise. |

Somebody here claimed to know the clapping chick in that video. LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT! DEAD! |

hey, at least it gets them out of the basement and off of their asses. I gotta give them that. And they are interacting with real live people, not faceless names on a xbox. (Or an internet chat board for that matter.) Goofy as fuck, and I couldn't take myself seriously enough to participate. But if it floats their boat, more power to them. And if some of them get laid out of it? Well fuck, I can't say that I've ever met anyone at the range that I'd want to screw. |

The wife and I did it once on a whim when we were first dating. It was fun as fuck. Nerd swordfights with foam covered PVC pipe?? Fuck yeah.
A group of guys from my old unit were huge into it. Life's too short to give a shit about what people think of you. I wonder how many will chime in about how gay it is, then they'll turn around and wear their Kryptek battle uniform and PC to a range that doesn't allow drawing from the holster?

Quoted: And just what can an American Larper aspire to be? Well, World Champions of course: Something tells me these guys aren't just basement geeks. That's not quite the same, it's more of a sport with steel weapons and armor, there is no role-play, characters or stats. Your goal is to take the other guy to the ground, though hits, projections, kicking or a good ole KO. Most of the US fighters do come from the SCA though. |

Those guys could shoot each other with long bows and foam-tipped arrows on campus, but I wasn't allowed to keep my compound bow in my truck. ![]() My buddy and I used to put padded tips on arrows and shoot each other with compound bows. It was funny until I forgot I had my phone in my pocket and we broke it. |
