ETA; Seems kinda odd to classify the expansion of the Islamic kingdoms as jihad. Would we call the Roman empire crusades? What about the European colonization of Africa and Asia? ISIS itself calls it Jihad because it fits their reason for existence as the sole legitimate "caliphate" of Islam. |

That "map" is questionable as all get out. It doesn't include the absolute TEOTWAWKI ass reaming that the Islamic world received from the Khans and Tamerlane. The effects of these battles effectively shattered the progress of their culture, which started their slow decent towards decadence, corruption, and lack of scientific progress. European powers, emboldened by new technologies, techniques, and an influx of resources from their new global markets (the Americas) coupled with the Islamic worlds never ending battle between Shia and Sunni (Safavid vs Ottoman) led to their entire part of the world becoming the morass that it is. After the Siege of Vienna Western Europe pretty much left the cleansing of the Balkans to the Slavs (let them kill each other off) as they were too engrossed with imperial/colonial desires.

The Crusaders were not as bad as Jihadis. Jihadis are just as bad (at least, in ideology) as the ancient Israelites...a civilization many people view as following the will of "God". The difference? The islamists were much, much more successful at taking over land and killing and capturing people. Jews supposedly did it to take over a small region. Radical Islam wants to do it to take over the world. That's basically how middle easterners used to roll. Some never gave up the practice. Bet you can guess which ones. |
