If the shit ever hit the fan. I don't take any maintenance meds, just an MVI and some fish oil daily. I don't need glasses, I'm not overweight etc...
I don't think I would last long though...I don't think anyone would last long. I just think people who require medication to survive will be the first to die (probably a good thing for them). |

I got 10 qts of 5w30 and a couple dozen rubbers. I'm good for a few years. |

| Our ancestors traveled down the Oregon Trail cut off from all society for a long period of time. I think their life expectancy was still descent all things considered. If you are prepared for the transition and you have entertainment skills I am not sure why your life expectancy would be below that of somebody living off the land in the 1900s. |

I'm on BP meds but I suspect my BP would straighten itself out PDQ once SHTF and I went on an involuntary diet. I'm not holding out to be Omega Man or anything, but I've lived without running water or electricity for longer than most in North America and could easily do it again. I'd be OK until the zombie bikers rolled up on me, but I'd go down shooting. |

Define SHTF. Massive weather disaster like Hurricane Katrina? Suitcase nuke or EMP strike by an enemy power or terrorist group? Revolution/secession within the union? Those are all pretty bad, but some much worse than others. I mean like WWIII/Civil War type scenario...totally hypothetical, as it won't happen. |

No meds, not that old, in decent enough shape and not a fat tub of goo, but I wear glasses. My prescription is not terrible and I can function without them.
I think my survival depends an awful lot on my will to live. I'm not going to drink my own piss and eat blades of grass if I'm the only person left alive, or the only non hostile one. If everyone I know and love is dead then my will to persevere is severely limited. |

Same here but I'm on the smallest dose of a weak pill so it wouldn't be too bad since I have a 3 mo. supply. I imagine I'd be pretty well set with my single stage reloading press. I'd be driving my captives pretty hard making more cartridges for me. |

I've been retired for over a year now and haven't taken or needed them since. |

Too many variables to figure it out. Am I bugging in or out? FSA pissed about no more handouts or a full blown civil war? Multiple nukes taking out federal government, wall street and major infrastructure like power grids? I am probably better prepared than 90% of folks but it dosent mean some redneck with an open sight 30/30 wont pick me off no apparent reason |

I imagine I could last awhile, assuming I could get to a wild area.
I grew up with no neighbors, roaming the woods, I literally grew up with a rifle in hand. Camped once a month for seven years getting some serious skills in the boy scouts, under the tutelage of a WW II Marine Crop Gunny Sergeant. He was serious about it. Spent six years in a Reserve Recon platoon with a bunch of Vietnam Vets learning how to Sneak & Peek, Been a serious hunter for more than 40 years. I bought 40 acres with a friend and camped on it for three years, clearing with chainsaw & tractor until we finally got a trailer set up and power run in. 23 years as an EMT I have real survival skills, so as long as I could steer clear of getting ambushed, I could make it. I'm fit with no major medical problems requiring meds. Not sure about living without whisky though.....
Probably kidding myself, but that's what I believe. I live across the road from a farm with a pretty good population of Goats, Cattle, Emus and fowl, so I'd probably stay put and trade security for food until the powder and bullets ran low, unless it became untenable, run for the woods after I eat all the cows... |

That's kind of the point, some here seem to wish for it. They don't know what they're wishing for. Quoted:

Too Long I have no delusions of SHTF, it will be a nightmare. That's kind of the point, some here seem to wish for it. They don't know what they're wishing for. Yep a whole like of Immature Kids on here with visions of grandeur. |

Got a solid, healthy family who already embraces some aspects of self reliance who has several families close by with similar lifestyles. We'd fare better than most, not as well as some.
I'm no crazy prepper with hundreds of pounds of wheat and mine fields out in the field, though. |

Yep a whole like of Immature Kids on here with visions of grandeur. Depends on the SHTF, where you are, how you live, who you know/associate with. My great grand parents barely knew there was a Great Depression. Life didn't change much for them. |
| We are surrounded by 35000 acres of watershed with at least another 20,000 acres of state land . There's plenty of woods , reservoirs and lakes in this part of NJ .I stand a chance at least of surviving for awhile , but there are also a lot of like minded folks around here so competition would be fierce ! |
| I am getting old but there's no meds I'd need to survive. I could live as long as I had enough gas to keep the generator going or until the freezer ran out of food. My problem would be defending myself when I left the house. Someone could waylay me no matter how well armed I was. If I had to abandon the house and fend for my wife and I in the wild I'd probably lose the will to live. |
