Gonna buy my wife and I a bicycle tomorrow I reckon. Not looking for anything high end. Just something to ride my little boy on and go around the neighborhood. He's 18 months old so gonna get one of those rear seats or trailer to put him in. Any suggesstions on a good Chelsea bike or does it matter at all?

Make sure it's a 0-1 car block maxim.

Be safe with your boy!

If you're just going to stay on pavement or packed dirt roads, a bike with skinnier road tires is a better choice than a bike with fat knobby tires.    Less effort to pedal the same distance due to less rolling resistance.

If you think in the future you'll be riding on any softer dirt roads/trails,  consider tires a bit fatter.

When my daughter was 3 we bought a "Trail-a-Bike" we rode the hell out of that thing for 2 years.  You have a ways to go though.

Some kind of a hybrid, mountain bike or dual sport bike is where you'll want to look depending on your physical condition and preferences.

I've done the baby seats and trailers and like them both.  The trailers will be good until the kid is 5 or so and the seats are usually outgrown by 3-4.  If neighborhood rides are all then the seats fine for now.  If you want to go farther the cargo capacity of a trailer plus the shade is good for the kid.

As noted above, get yourselves some sort of hybrid.  Cannondale, Specialized, or Trek will do you well!

This. Go search Trek or Specialized. There will be tons for sale for half the price of new.

I bought a near new Trek 3500 Disc for $280.

Go to a bike shop.

Avoid the Walmart type bikes... Cheap components aren't your friend.

Craigslist does have a lot of bargains, but it also has a lot of abused bikes. Replacing a set of wheels or a cracked frame isn't cheap.

I'd agree with the comment about avoiding knobby tyres. With that being said, tyres are cheap to replace usually.

Spend some time reading up on how the bike should fit before buying.

I once saw an overweight guy on a Walmart bike that was creaking everytime he pedaled because the gears were so badly adjusted. He was sitting so low that his legs were really having problems. If I'd had tools with me I'd have stopped him. Was painful to watch.

My wife and I have Fuji's and love them.

In addition to the helmet grab some front and rear blinkers.

We need to do a run on ARFCOM riding jerseys.  That way I can pedal through DC with one on
