Does anyone know of a company offering a M4A1 rifle ?
Basically, a Colt R6920 with a fixed carry handle.

Ok, wrong model I guess.
What I'm looking for is a rifle like a R6920 but with a fixed carry handle.
Whatever model designation that may be.

This is correct.  I've been issued both the M4 and M4A1.  I never did a side-by-side comparison, but the only differences I remember are the M4A1 having a heavier barrel and full-auto as opposed to the M4's 3 round burst.

The original M4 in the mid 90s had a fixed carry handle, but when the rail upper came out, the new M4 gained it with no change in nomenclature.

They do, but the detachable carry handle languishes in some armorers cage somewhere rather than get issued out

Del-Ton Echo 216 Basically a Colt 727, ie; fixed carry handle M4gery. 16" bbl, though. Not sure if that's a deal breaker.

Way back in he days before the M4A1 as we know it today (heavy barrel);

The M4A1 was a short m16 with a M4 barrel and A1 style upper with forward assist and carry handle but it had M4 cut feed ramps.

Then of course your M4 a2 was the same with 727/A2 style upper.

And the M4A3 was the flat top version.

Of course this was circa 199x and these were not official designations for the most part.

I owned all 3 types at one time; all had M4 cuts and were Colt uppers.

This was back in the late 90's when you had to use a preban lower and make your own M4 (as in no one really had them except those on ARFCOM)

This is what the OP was probably referring to.

ETA:  I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell me I'm wrong and that I never actually owned anything like that.

Apparently what I am asking for is the Colt 727 style of rifle.

You're damn straight

Since we're being pedantic about military designations, your purported model numbers are all fucked up.
You're arbitrarily assigning A1, A2, and A3 (the A3 was never a flat top) to a completely different series of weapons, and doing a disservice to people who are trying to learn the correct names for various mil. configurations.

I'd LOVE to see a Colt catalog listing these models, not R6530 or whatever.

I had real M4's and M4A1's.  They had detachable carry handles, and were introduced with detachable handles in the early 1990's.

The Colt RO727 had an M16A2 upper, but with feed ramps.

The Colt RO723 had the C7 upper, with shell deflector.

Here is what the OP is probably looking for, one of my personal 727 builds:

A1 upper vs A2

CAR-15 was a family of weapons program, not a model number for any of the AR15 series.  Colt tried to respond to Stoner's Stoner 63 system after he had gone to Cadillac-Gauge.

The CAR-15 Family of Weapons was the result.  The first carbine in the series was the Colt RO605.  The first Commando was the RO607.  Both are pictured here.

Whats that shim between the grip and the lower?

Wow, cool picture.  Do the rifles in your unit all have the selector block tabs/plates snapped off like that?  Never understood why guard units had them on burst equipped rifles in the first place.

If you want the right look, get an old colt with gray A2 receivers, an N marked stock and 14.5'' barrel pinned to 16. If you don't care about the prancing pony, contact McKay Industries or NoDak for receivers with the proper anodizing.

It was the same with us
We'd actually only had the A2s for a few years when they were taken away and we got M4s for deployment
For well over a decade prior, we'd still been carrying A1s

I actually prefer short barreled ARs with A1 carry handle sights.  I'm old, though, and that's what I had when I was in the Army (at least at first).

No, the M4 style is offered by EVERYONE,

the M4A1 has a medium contour barrel. Only Colt's makes one, but they are 14.5" but not availible right now their SOCOM one is a 16.5" version, BCM makes one, and a 16.5" Medium contour one as well.

the standard 16.5 Carbine with carry handle is literally made by everyone as a basic model.
