Personally I am opposed to pretty much any kind of conflict which involves sending US forces into harms way. I despise the way the UN arbitrarily sends our guys to the shitholes of the world (Haiti, Somalia, Bosnia, The Entire Middle East) on their bullshit "We Are The World" peacekeeping missions. The exception being special operation forces sent into shitholes for some hands on experience.

Im sick of how US forces are treated like errand boys who are sent into conflict to fix some fucked up country that will continue to be fucked up no matter what we do and be even more fucked up after we leave. To say nothing of the ENORMOUS amounts of US tax dollars that are squandered on these efforts.

Basically, if YOUR country is fucked up, FIX IT. When your country is no longer fucked up we will probably establish relations and trade. THAT should be the incentive. You don't fucking give them the money first.

I think the US forces should ONLY be deployed in the event of direct threats to the US or her allies (these include the UK, Germany on a good day, Israel when they decide they are gonna commit troops for OUR efforts, and Japan if they ever get the balls to knock N. Korea on their ass). Everyone else fuck off. France don't call us next time the Germans decide to tour Paris. And this kind of DIRECT threat to the US or her allies almost NEVER happens.

So here we are on the verge of war with Iraq. A war suppossedly about oil. So should we do it?

You damn right and here is why.

It is about oil and so much else. It is about the enemies of the United States FEARING the United States.

About 10 years ago we got caught with our pants down in Somalia. A small force with no real support got mauled for 24 hours when they engaged the African equavalent of Los Angeles. Now even though we killed 1,000s to their 19 we did not finish the job. Clinton was embarrassed his "feel good feed those people" mission went to shit and was probably horrified that US soldiers actually shot poor dispossed Africans. Cause he sure as shit didn't care about 19 Americans.

But it made us look weak. It showed we would enter hostile territory undermanned and un supported. It showed we were vulnerable. And it encouraged the enemy. And the main group to take note of the Somali events were the 9-11 terrorists who tested our lack of resolve with attacks on the USS Cole and were further emboldened by our lack of action.

Contrast this with Kaddaffi fucking with Reagan 10 years earlier. With the mere threat of violence we bombed the shit out of Libya without too much thinking about it or begging our enemies to please cut it out. And Libya decided the United States is best not fucked with. They then turned their attention to supporting IRA elements against the UK.

So make no mistake, the world IS watching. Every country hostile to the US is waiting to see if we are gonna lay down for another good fucking. And if we do 9-11 will be nothing compared to what will follow. We will create a perpetual Islamic Cold War and like Israel will always be on Orange or some other gay color waiting for the next pizza joint to blow up.

We need to nail Iraq and we need to do it hard. To quote Goodfellas, "And if anyone ever did fuck with us they got smacked so fucking hard believe me they never did it again." We need our enemies to once again fear us. We need them worried about what we might do if we even suspect them of bullshit.

And sure innocents will die. Despite smart bombs, etc. somebody who didn't have a damn thing to do with it will die. And they need to take the war warnings seriously and get the fuck out of Dodge. It is also regrettable that members of enemy forces will die for their loyalty and patriotism. It is understood that not all of them are religious fanatics and are merely honoring their duty to their country.

But our guys take the same risk, and given the "collateral damage" of 9-11 I'd say we lost more than our fair share of innocents. Time to make them pay.

For those who don't see it, The war in Iraq and 9-11 are directly related. The Muslim coutries act in concert much the same way Nato forces did during the last Cold War. It's time for this one to got hot, and time to focus on winning and putting our enemies on notice.

I agree, the cost of screwing with the U.S. has to be so harsh, so deadly, so ugly, that the very thought of what might happen should deter even the most dedicated foe.  At this point the world does not respect the U.S., but we should go all out to make sure that they fear us.

...they put one of ours in the hospital, we put 1000 of theirs in the morgue.....

I agree, if we back down at this point it will cause us unnumbered trouble in the next 20 years.

The world will see weakness and go for our throat.

The primary reasons France and German are opposing the US on Iraq is 1st to protect their economic interest in Iraq AND 2nd to decrease US influence in the world.
