[ARCHIVED THREAD] - UPS Store = GAY (Page 1 of 2)

That has to be the most anti-gun business ever. Can't even ship a riflescope.
USPS took much less of my money and didn't ask any questions. |

To make a short story long, I had to get it shipped out yesterday and was very short on time. I figured the UPS Store may not be the best choice or cheapest but usually pretty quick and easy. I didn't have a box it would fit in so I took it in and told them "Sporting Goods Equipment" (even though my preferred answer was none of your damn business). She calculates shipping and insurance to be over $65 and I politely say no thanks. Then she starts looking at the box and reading what is written on the side (Vortex Razor HD 5-20X50 riflescope etc.....) and tells me that they can't ship it anyway because they can't ship firearms or gun parts.

Ran into the same thing at Christmas. Tried mailing home some Schmidt-Ruben parts including a stock and barreled receiver. UPS store gal
said, "We don't ship anything gun." I explained it wasn't a working firearm, parts only. No matter. Making things worse was the fat, smelly, toothless know-it-all in the store at the same time, chiming in and claiming, "You can't even ship a firing pin, you know. That's illegal too."
Rather than argue with UPS store gal and strangle fat boy, I took the package to the USPS. No problems, and everything arrived in good order. UPS Store can bite me. EDIT: I think they are catching on to the "machined parts" explanation, at least at certain locations. |
I'm tempted to hide under a rock for this one. But here goes. ![]() I work at a UPS store.. We are individually owned franchises, and most of us would LOVE to ship your firearms parts. Unfortunately, the individuals that own the corporate franchisors office in San Diego are rather anti-gun, so they set forth the policy, on stone tablets, that we cannot ship anything gun related. I'm sure there are some store owners and associates that gleefully enforce this rule... I, myself, hate telling a sale to go to the actual UPS customer counter. Also, that whole 'machined parts' thing? Great idea.. until UPS loses something and refuses to honor a claim on your item. Go to the customer counter and do it correctly. |

This topic gets beat to death occasionally here. long story short, UPS stores are franchised. for whatever reason they have the "no parts" rules. If you go to a normal UPS facility they will ship your stuff. I used UPS to ship a pistol back to manufacturer for warranty work once, and shipped a few parts to ADCO too. but the UPS stores absolutely won't touch anything if they think it's even somewhat gun related, even scope rings. *if* they know what it is. You can almost always find better prices elsewhere anyway.

Quoted: I recently shipped a Dillon press by UPS store. Lady asked me 5 times (yes, five) what it was. (I had them wrap/package it) Each time I replied "metal working tools". It was a trap but I sidestepped it. |

I had my trust notorized at a UPS store. When the guy asked me what it was for and I told him he almost shit his pants
![]() ![]()
Mine is too, and he did the same thing! I explained to him in detail how the whole thing works, and the guy turned like 5 shades whiter and said "let me call the store owner". After about 15 minutes on the phone, he came back and said, "okay, let me see your paperwork" |

Most useless package delivery business in existence. Their shipping costs, I have found, are out of this universe. They absolutely suck. Our rates are the same as you will find if you go to any UPS customer counter. Over $65 to ship a scope? Thats BS. I shipped it insured for full value for $30 through USPS and they gave me a box. UPS Store wanted $10 for a cardboard box.......a cardboard freaking box. |

Franchises are run differently. For instance, most people who work at Chik-Fil-A don't really want to shoot all homosexuals, but it is company policy. They have to. |

The UPS Stores here are marked up like crazy. I work at a franchise shipping store. I know our rates are marked up ~100% from store cost. The UPS Store was even more than that last we checked. |
| The store near me has a habit of rounding box dimensions UP to the next inch. 14 1/8" becomes 15". I can't say it's a deliberate effort, but I'm sure it adds noticeably the their profits. Add a fuel surcharge and their handling fee and it's really turned me off to them. |

Add a fuel surcharge and their handling fee and it's really turned me off to them. That is how shipments are billed. Every company will do that. FedEx and UPS both charge on dimensional weight. If a dimension is 14.01 it is billed as 15. On that note, if you buy a box advertised as 15x15x15, it will be billed as 16x16x16. The advertised dimensions are INTERNAL dimensions. |

Types of people I despise (and you should too): People who take their non-packaged goods to a UPS store to be packed and shipped People who take their non-packaged goods to the post office to be packed and shipped People who pay by check but wait until everything is rung up before even pulling out their checkbook Prepackage and prepay your shit! Waltz in, drop off package, waltz out. Two minutes tops.

FedEx and UPS do charge for dimensional weight, but their actual policies are to round DOWN below a .5 difference. DHL also rounds down below .5. That is where the UPS store is skimming and it bothers me - especially since their typical customer is not involved with the industry. Other shippers may have different policies and are free to follow them. |
| I had a ups customer counter a couple of days ago tell me I couldn't ship ammo. Then they looked it up on their own website and finally agreed. It only took about 45 minutes for them to decide to ship it. They refused completely to ship a rifle within the state because it wasn't going to an FFL. I ended up getting the USPS to do it. I didn't even know the USPS would ship a long gun. |

I had to ship a set of pistol sights to Texas recently and I chose UPS. Went to the closest UPS Store, and not realizing that freakin sights were off limits as well, told the clerk when he asked (dumb mistake on my part).
Promptly took them to the next UPS store and the guy didn't ask, although if he had I would have just told him it was "CNC machined steel parts" Live and learn. |

"negotiated rates" for the Mother Fing Win !!! i use my employers shipping account
then write a check to them for the shipping. what cost you $65 at the counter, costs me like 12 bucks to ship... AND they come pick it up .. evil laugh.. |

Quoted: You're confusing the UPS *stores* with the UPS *hubs*. Big difference. Quoted: Quoted: odd since UPS is the preferred shipper for LaRue You're confusing the UPS *stores* with the UPS *hubs*. Big difference. Yep. I had to take a box of ammo to the local hub to ship it. Can't at the UPS Store. |

They're not even picky about when you pay them back, just that you do eventually. Or just do the pre-printed label paid by yourself, and the online forms don't even have options to "declare contents" and just want the insurance amount. Granted, if you don't actually pull some UPS employee aside and "declare" they will probably make a stink and drop your claim if it's lost, but for some strange reason whenever I DON'T declare, (because pre-printed label and placing it for pickup doesn't really give me a chance, nor does the UPS website...) and I disguise the recipient address a bit, instead of "Ruger" I'd put "S.R. Service Dept.", instead of "Kel Tec" I'd put "KT CNC Inc." it ALWAYS seems to get there with no problem.
