So i have a 2007 altima 2.5s with around 78000 miles on it and it has been kind of sluggish with really shit gas mileage, average 19 mpg in town. Im really hoping that the CVT is not going out, when parked and shifting into drive or reverse it seems harder to shift then before and has a longer delay and finally clunking into gear. Driving highway speeds is fine but around town with alot of starts and stops it seems sluggish with the throttle response. I have googled some things and read about nissan CVT's going out and nissan responding with an extended warranty which i am covered under. The poor gas mileage and sluggish response tend to make me think it could be spark plugs though.

does anyone have any advice on other things to look into?

Not sure on the 07's.  My beloved 03 had throttle body issues and spark plug issues at around 85k that sound VERY similar to what you describe.  I also started having issues with shifting being hard at around 105k.

Where are you in OR? If you are in the valley, PM me and Ill get you hooked up.
Could be a million things if you dont have any more symptoms than poor mileage.

How about a tune up?  Change some fluids maybe?

When did you last service the trans? I believe a Flush in required at 30,000

Perhaps a fluid change!

A flush is never recommended by any manufacturer!

ETA: CVT transmission requires specific fluid designated for CVT.

I had a new 2011 Altima coupe that had major issues with the CVT, all happening under 30,000 miles. Started after a mountain trip, overheated the CVT and it was never right afterwards. Nissan swore up and down there was nothing wrong with the car, despite the fact I could replicate the issue on command, and it was bad enough that it made the techs speechless. Still, "nothing wrong with it." Had 3 different dealers all say the same thing, one even said "well, it wasnt made for driving in mountains." wish i had gotten that one on tape. Sold it at a huge loss, and didn't look back. It was worth it to be rid of the POS. if you think you're having issues, see if it can be fixed under their warranty, but don't be surprised if you're told it's fine.

Never again will I buy anything Nissan.

And when you do have to work on them they are one of the worst cars to work on. That's probably why the dealers told you that it was your imagination

Yes, if you do not own a 10mm and 12mm socket, a ratchet, and a phillips screwdriver, they are a total PITA.

If you have those 4 tools, then you can take the damn thing 95% of the way apart, and put it back together.

ETA - I have owned a Stanza, P/U (little one), Frontier, Maxima, Sentra, and currently drive an Xterra. I'm a pretty big Nissan/Infiniti fan.

I think that Nissan has extended the warranty on all CVT transmissions due to them failing.  If you think that your tranny is busted you may want to inquire about the warranty.

You're right on this part.

Used to be a Nissan service advisor  We flushed them(BG trans machine), most had no trans drain plug.

Bingo

What the hell is Nissan's fasination with the Phillips screwdriver? Havent they been around long enough to know thier corrosion protection sucks, and all thier little phillips head shit will never come apart again?  I am not a Nissan fan. Ever had to pull an Engine on a 300ZX? It is in no way a mechanic friendly car. Brackets. Brackets everywhere.

OK OK... my X is a 2001 (1st Gen), and I have no issues working on it at all. That being said, the new ones seem like they would suck tremendously, but I think that is common among ALL "modern" cars, regardless of the manufacturer. My wife's Honda Accord looks like they used a shoehorn and a hydraulic ram to fit things into the engine compartment.

Thanks for the input, I have been out of the dealership for a few years now, but have seen several TSB's that advise against a flush(and have not seen any MFGR recommended flushes), tomorrow I will definitely look into this specific vehicle and look for the procedure! I have been wrong before.

Either way it could be our SM got a kickback from BG? Nissan rarely asked. It's all a BS(Advisors got a $5 kickback for every service sold) game. Seen engines and trans get replaced with no maintenance.

Funny you mention the no maintenance and engine replacement!
Last month I replaced an engine in an 09 Versa......because the last oil change was 27k miles ago! Yes you read that right 27k....lol! Well at least I can say the versa can go that long before it gives up the ghost!
