I had one in my hand that required surgery, not as invasive as his.

Just got a bad one while loading plywood at Lowes. Best thing to do is ignore them and let them work out eventually.

Yes, through the finger, then it broke off.  In for a day, then the wife talked about it to the attending ER doc who took it out.

When I was a kid, my dad built me a seriously kickass playfort. Slide, firepole, sandbox, swings, the works.

Welllllllll, I managed to pick up a 4ish inch splinter in my arm while using the slide. Fortunately, one of our family friends was an EMT. Unfortunately for me, the splinter broke into 3 pieces in my arm and it was a good 1/4 to 1/3rd of the way through the muscle of my forearm. Took several hours to extract all 3 pieces, no anesthesia. Had to use hypodermic needles to hold the hole open so he could get a clamp on the splinter chunks.

Holy fuck that hurt. I seriously haven't thought about it in almost 25 years

I like how only his head is secured to the LSB, no collar to boot.

Pretty sure splinters only come from wood and the others would be slivers.

Dont forget fiberglass or carbon fiber. I picked up the former from a snow ski.

Ah yes, touche'. I'll go along with splinters coming from other "fibrous" materials as well.
