When I was a kid, my dad built me a seriously kickass playfort. Slide, firepole, sandbox, swings, the works. Welllllllll, I managed to pick up a 4ish inch splinter in my arm while using the slide. Fortunately, one of our family friends was an EMT. Unfortunately for me, the splinter broke into 3 pieces in my arm and it was a good 1/4 to 1/3rd of the way through the muscle of my forearm. Took several hours to extract all 3 pieces, no anesthesia. Had to use hypodermic needles to hold the hole open so he could get a clamp on the splinter chunks. Holy fuck that hurt. I seriously haven't thought about it in almost 25 years
