Does anyone have one? We are not home a lot of the time and have packages left outside in the elements.
I want something waterproof and heavier duty than one of those storage totes. Maybe with a hinged lid and big enough for a box with a complete upper in it. I'm not really worried about theft. I will put "Packages" on the lid so they don't have to walk up our slippery ramp to the nearest door. (We go in through our garage door) |

I built a box 24"x12"x12" with a clear piece of 1/4" plastic as the front on a post on the inside of my gate which can be reached from outside the gate. The post office delivery person will come up the road and put the package into the box if it doesn't fit inside my mailbox. An added bonus is that she lives next to me, so if the package is too big for the box she'll drive up to the house and leave it on the front step under the eaves. Theft isn't an issue, I'm the last house on the end of the dead end gravel road. |

I'm not really worried about theft. If you were, you could put a padlock hasp on it, along with an unlocked padlock and instructions for the delivery guy to lock the padlock after leaving packages inside it. Another trick is to install a dummy security camera. |

I have a legit security camera that emails me footage by motion sensor. It is just that we get different delivery people all the time. Fedx, UPS, USPS, Etc.
I don't want to have to deal with a lock with all of them. I have literally met none of them yet after 6 months of living here. |

I've seen people use the big Jobsite toolboxes before and leave locks on them to be locked after a package is inside. This seems like a good idea, I will go out and measure the spot where I want it shortly. Then I will see if one of those boxes will work. |

We use a plastic tub with a lid and a 10 pound weight in it so it doesn't get moved by the wind.
I don't overly worry about someone stealing out of it. Anything besides a locking box that is firmly secured to the ground isn't going to stop two strong people from picking up the box, putting it in their truck and taking it anyway, except now you're out the money for the box also. |

I bought one of these for the small stuff that comes by mail (USPS) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Architectural-Mailboxes-Oasis-Jr-Black-Post-Mount-or-Column-Mount-Locking-Mailbox-6200B-11/203146465 For bigger stuff it usually comes UPS or FedEx. Both will no longer leave packages, several years back there was a crime wave of sorts and they were getting stolen. As soon as I get a tracking number I go on their websites and change delivery to hold at location. I drive right by our local UPS hub on the way to work, and there is a FedEx store just up the street from the gym. |

I do have one, it just seems unsafe as well as a pain to get it out to all three deliverers, as I have yet to meet one yet. Another option would be to put a combination padlock on your box, and then give the combination to all your delivery services. Due to the popularity of gated communities, most delivery services deal with lock combinations all the time. It's no big deal for them. |
