How difficult is this going to be? We are going to cancel their service. I remember the recording of the guy that got hassled when trying to cancel. Getting FIOS instead. Was paying around $260+ for basic internet, movie channels, and land line from Comcast.

Holy crap dude. I dont have much to add as far as disconnecting, but how is that possible? I'm $100 cheaper with upgraded internet, movie channels, and the home phone.

Over our two year agreement.

New Fios agreement has 50/50 not that I will ever use that speed, movie channels, $400 gift card all for $100 a month with equipment, taxes $130 a month.

Call in and tell them you're moving, and won't need service until you figure out permanent housing. Got me out of the whole hard sale nonsense.

This...can also tell them you're moving to an area where they don't have service and give them the zip - that's what I did when I cancelled last.  They take a couple seconds to check the zip for service and then you're all done.

Complete crap that you have to go through that process just to cancel a service though.

I loved the Xfinity X1 system, but Fios is a hell of a lot cheaper.

I switched (pretty easy, one phone call and 20 minutes later), and went from a $120 bill (cable, internet) to a $82 bill (faster internet, about the same cable).

Adding the phone is a ripoff.. The only reason I wanted it was in case the power goes off, but they don't do a standard phone line anymore. All the phones are voice over IP that rely on your modem. So if the power goes out, your phone still doesn't work... Whats the point in even having one?

It doesn't need to be that difficult.  Just get your new service setup and then pack up all the old xfinity shit and take it down to their office and cancel that way.  They will take the stuff and then cancel you're account and prorate if there is any balance or anything.  I've cancelled with them twice after moving and it's been a fairly painless process.

The phone recording guy was an attention whore and got what he wanted.

Agreed its sad. I'm sitting in my own house and connect to my neighbors FIOS network and its faster than my shitty Xfinity.

One of the best days was finally severing all ties with Xfinity.  Haven't looked back since.  Had some terrible experiences with them over the years, but was forced to stick with them as they were the only service I could get in the area I lived.  Moved, and now have Directv for television, and Hotwire for internet.  Both have been great going on close to a year now. Hotwire seems to be similar to Fios... fiber optic right to my house and super fast.  Oh, and much cheaper for faster speeds.

The Xfinity gateways have a UPS type battery if you have VOIP service.

If you want to cancel, I recommend turning in the equipment first at a Comcast store and make sure you have a receipt listing every piece of equipment - it shuts them down as far as any further talking when you call to cancel.

Yeah, fios has a built in battery backup too for all the services.. But that only works if the cable line is working.. I know cable doesn't go out as often now days, but batteries only last so long...

Listen to his advice though. Turn in equipment first and they don't ask any questions over the phone. That's what I did and there was no heckling involved.

wasn't that hard for me, i just packed up their crap and took it to the nearest xfinity office and told them i'm done.  dogshit internet speeds, the dvr box would freeze and restart in the middle of recordings, and was just all around slow balls.  much happier with uverse now.

My internet with them is awesome.  I was with their 105Mbps and got 125Mbps all day at any time.  Recently pumped it down a little to 50Mbps and they threw in TV which I don't use for $50.  Can complain as it is the fasted internet I can get.

I had Xfinity Triple Play.

I dropped the TV and went with DirecTV instead.

For internet, I'm paying for 50/10Mbps and getting 110 down and about 13 up.
