I decided it was time to give it up after 20 or so years off and on. Today really sucked hard but I know tomorrow will be a little easier, and the next day even easier than that.
Update: I'm going to continue to update this thread until the two week mark. Then I'll probably only update on the milestones. I would like to thank everyone for the support and advice. Last cigarette was 01/04/15 at around 11pm. Quitters: hooligan223 01/04/15 Iceman 01/09/15 rhubarb 03/27/09 Citadel-SC 02/18/15 westardbound 11/2014 |
| The next few weeks may be difficult. Stay the course and you'll never regret it. The cravings seem to get further and further apart every day you stay smoke free. I know years later, sometimes I crave one, believe it or not. Then I'll see they're $5 a pack and I'm reminded of the other benefit of quitting. |

Congrats . Think of all the money you'll save just to spend on ammo and gun parts I'll save about $20 a week just on cigarettes plus I've started taking my lunch so that's about another $20 or so. It won't take long to add up. This is part of a huge change for me. Doc said he wanted me on cholesterol medication and I asked him for few months to see what I could do without it. Changing my diet, exercising and quitting smoking are what I'm doing so far. I just hope it's not too much at once and I can stick with it all. |

I'm going on one week of no chew, first 4 days are rugged. Good luck I quit last year at this time. It was tough going into a welding shop with guys dipping all around you. I haven't had one since I stopped and I am proud of that. I won't touch it again unless its the end of the world or some such.... I don't buy the gas stations and drinking. It sucks being out drinking even after a few months but otherwise it hasn't seemed like a big deal. I recently cut out caffeine and for me it was worse. I was drinking a couple energy drinks a day and the physical separation was very difficult. Good luck op. |

Nice. Each day will get easier. Know that the intense cravings will pass, the duration of each craving will get shorter and shorter. You can do this; seriously.
I would never admit it anywhere other than the internet, but quitting smoking is one of my proudest accomplishments. I've been tobacco free since May 2008. |
| Been 4 years for me. You will slip up, don't let it get you down, just stay the course. I STILL have slip-ups occasionally when I'm around other smokers, especially if alcohol is involved. But, I don't beat myself up over it, I figure 1 or 2 smokes every couple months is better than a pack a day! |

I don't expect this thread to go far but felt like posting it anyway. CSB and all that. I smoked for 18 years. Gave it up one year ago this month! I can tell a difference in taste, bloodflow, and especially my excercise and running. |

How was it getting off the e-cigs? I was sort of Leary of substituting one habit for another. Quoted:

Hang in there OP, you can do it. You might try E-cigs...they helped me. 9 Months smoke free for me, after 40 yrs of smoking How was it getting off the e-cigs? I was sort of Leary of substituting one habit for another. I used johnson creek vaping products and kept cutting the nicotine level in half every order. Took me about 6 months to quit the vaping, but no cig's in 2.5 years now. |

Its the same habit. Just a different method of nicotine delivery. Bottom line: E-cigs and snus are 99% safer than cigarettes. They are the lesser of two evils. I used to snus to stop smoking and quit the snus after 6 months. |

good for you!!!!!!!!
keep it up,no matter what it takes. I remember when my Dad quit smoking. He kept a pack in his shirt pocket and he said "by God,I'm gonna find out who's stronger ----me or the damn cigarettes" He won. (and lived another 38 years too) I quit Nov. 2,1998. |

Smoke free since saturday night. Hope my thread made you say fuck it and quit. I guess it only gets easier from here on out. I decided I was going to quit before Christmas but my wife made me wait until after the holidays. So I picked a day and said this is it. I guess she thought I would turn into a raging asshole or something. She told me I seemed like I was doing alright when I came home. I told her to give it a day or two and see if she still felt the same.

January 1997. Stay strong, it gets better quickly. The nicotine addition is gone within a few days, but the psychological craving remains for a while. Spend time in places where you can't smoke even if you wanted (gym, pool, having sex, in the shower, having sex in the shower).
I quit drinking sodas six months ago. Guess I'll have to give up sniffing glue next! (Gratuitous 'Airplane' reference). |

I smoked for about 16 years, and have been without a cigarette for nearly 14 years. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but the one I'm the most glad about. I still crave occasionally, but boy, I don't regret it.
After a while, you'll be able to smell someone who smokes from 20 feet away. Good job OP! |

Honestly, no it doesn't. I've just endured the single longest day of my life. But I know that it will feel good eventually and that's something to look forward to. Quoted:

Feels good to be a non-smoker, doesn't it OP? Honestly, no it doesn't. I've just endured the single longest day of my life. But I know that it will feel good eventually and that's something to look forward to. Yep!! Then you'll realize how bad it STINKS. You will not want to be around it |

Quoted: Aug 2012 Still periodically crave. Stay away from alcohol, gas stations and stress. |

good luck.. stay strong.. your an addict, once you realize that, it will make it easier.. my issue was i would STOP for a long period of time, get into a situation where just one (my case, chew) sounded good at the time and then downhill from there.. get into a gym if you don't already.. your food is going to taste WAY fucking better, and you'll eat more of it.. |

I quit a two pack a day habit 22 years ago when I got hired at the FD. I quit Dip, and all tobacco products when my son was born,13 years ago next month.
You can do it too. Reward yourself, use the money you save to buy something for yourself. If the cravings are overwhelming, buy the gum, expensive , but worth it. I chewed wads of it, until it made me sick, ignoring the recommended dose. Hang in there it's worth it. I have two close friends that still smoke, 30+ years of it. My friends wife is the same age as me, used to be a knock out. Now she looks 10 years older than me, and both of them have health issues. I on the other hand, always get comments that I don't look my age, and enjoy good health. Choose good health. |

(not trying to be a dick, and i agree with the theory for sure.. just wondering if theres been studies and shit)
