Anyone have an idea of what a perc test might cost in NYS (rural area).
Looking at buying some old pasture land but a perc test is wise if I ever want to build on it.

Web Soil Survey

Look up the land on there and you can get a lot of data on what it may be used for/would not be good for.

You can see if the soil types are any good for a septic system/roads/houses.

Yes. I did my own. The county health dept gave me the guidelines and instructions. My ground failed.


ETA, had to install a jet aeration unit instead of a leech field.

In my neck of the woods you need to dig a 8' hole with a ramp on one side.  I paid my BIL $150 and he dug with his backhoe and it passed with flying colors.  I just may build a house on that remote 5 acres I bought.
