In this thread we share stories with pictures and/or video clips on what has given you inspiration, hope or goodwill in your life in general and towards humanity. It can be something as simple as a picture you took with an explanation as to why what you captured moved you so. It must be something real.

Keep all twisted and dark humor, political and religious debate, sexual innuendo, etc out of the thread; keep it clean and genuine, thank you.

Christmas Truce of 1914 Video

"Starting on Christmas Eve, many German and British troops sang Christmas carols to each other across the lines, and at certain points the Allied soldiers even heard brass bands joining the Germans in their joyous singing.

At the first light of dawn on Christmas Day, some German soldiers emerged from their trenches and approached the Allied lines across no-man’s-land, calling out “Merry Christmas” in their enemies’ native tongues. At first, the Allied soldiers feared it was a trick, but seeing the Germans unarmed they climbed out of their trenches and shook hands with the enemy soldiers. The men exchanged presents of cigarettes and plum puddings and sang carols and songs. There was even a documented case of soldiers from opposing sides playing a good-natured game of soccer.

Some soldiers used this short-lived ceasefire for a more somber task: the retrieval of the bodies of fellow combatants who had fallen within the no-man’s land between the lines.

The so-called Christmas Truce of 1914 came only five months after the outbreak of war in Europe and was one of the last examples of the outdated notion of chivalry between enemies in warfare. It was never repeated—future attempts at holiday ceasefires were quashed by officers’ threats of disciplinary action—but it served as heartening proof, however brief, that beneath the brutal clash of weapons, the soldiers’ essential humanity endured.

During World War I, the soldiers on the Western Front did not expect to celebrate on the battlefield, but even a world war could not destroy the Christmas spirit."

An Ode to Joy Flash Mob Video

"Members of the Odessa Philharmonic and Opera Chorus created their classical flash mob on March 25, during a Saturday of shopping at the Privoz Fish Market in Odessa, Ukraine, which is said to be an intense, bustling part of the city’s everyday life.

The Odessa Philharmonic and Odessa Opera Chorus recently tried to elevate the experience for some shoppers by staging an “Ode to Joy” flash mob performance in the middle of the bazaar. The “Ode to Joy,” from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, also happens to be the anthem of the European Union. The musicians told a local newspaper that they wanted to make a statement about Ukrainian unity, so they selected this ode to unity and brotherhood."

World's Strongest Dad Video

"This article has been around for a while, but it’s truly one of the most inspirational ones we’ve come across. Our Strongest Dad in the World vote has to do to Dick Hoyt: “Eighty-five times he’s pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in marathons. Eight times he’s not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a wheelchair but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars–all in the same day.”

For one, I believe the right court decision was made but nonetheless the picture is powerful and moving. Lot of anger and hatred out there where more of this is needed for understanding to start.

Man cradles his best friend to sleep in the lake

"Photographer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson took this photo of her friend John Unger, lulling his sick 19-year-old dog Schoep to sleep in Lake Superior.

Schoep has arthritis and has trouble sleeping, so every night John cradles the dog in his arms because he found that water helps ease the pooch’s pain. John rescued Schoep as an 8 month old puppy, and he’s been by his side through many adventures."

"Firefighter Dave Tree stumbled across the female marsupial, nicknamed Sam, as he was battling blazes in Victoria state and was amazed when the parched animal guzzled down water from a bottle as he held her scorched paw"

Pit bull guards, comforts injured deer in Greenville video

With pit bulls being one my least liked dog breeds and being an avid hunter this still touched deh feelz

"GREENVILLE - Pit bulls often get a bad rap, but not this friendly terrier in Greenville.

A viewer sent us this video she took Friday morning on her property. A young deer got tangled up in her fence and her dog, Gotti, did his best to comfort the injured animal. He spent time licking the deer's legs and even laying by its side.

The owner tells us the deer is now resting in her garden. She's called an animal rehab crew to try and help it"

I remember reading this story a few years ago; heck of a guy and hell of a woman that stuck by his side
