My backyard is very small and on both sides have two story houses that have full view into my backyard. It would be nice to have a little more privacy so we aren't watched everytime we are sitting outside on the deck. I like my neighbors so I don't want to offend them and build a strategically placed wall. I was leaning towards using some sort of plants, only problem is it under full shade from oak trees. I've also considered building a bench with planters on top so I can plant some shorter bushes and still have a significant height you can't see directly through.
Any other ideas to consider?

Thanks,

Walk around naked? Pee in the four corners of the yard to mark your territory?

Build a wall then put hedges on both sides. Also include some tank traps incase they decide to go kill dozer.

How about building an arbor and planting some vines to grow on it?

Bamboo makes one hell of a screen, however it easily gets out of control.  The only real way to control it is to dig down several feet around the area you want the bamboo and place a 60 mil HDPE barrier.

I wonder if you could grow it in containers?  This could would work with your idea.

It's actually illegal to grow in some parts of the country because of how it spreads.

That was my first choice but it is in full shade. I wasn't sure of a vine that liked the full shade. My plant knowledge is very limited

How about some type of covered porch over the deck, or a awning that would protect you from the rain and from prying eyes.We had the same problem at our old house  with our swimming pool. Every time we were in the pool you could look up and see our neighbors watching us. We ended up moving to the country on several acres. Best decision we ever made. Good luck.
