"almost outdoorsy"? I guess that's better than "not quite a metrosexual" but not by much...you're kind of hard on your brother.

Do a search for "cree aa", they're a neat little under $5 single AA light with a zoomable lens.  Great for the price.

These for under $3.50 a piece.

I ordered a dozen for my family for Christmas, they sent me 20. They do not come with batteries. They take about a month to arrive (for me). They are great little flashlights.

Its a controversial subject - some ppl hate them, some love them..  I just bought one in the spring and found them pretty practical.

its multi functional face/neck wrap..   during the summer i found that if you wet it and then put it on the natural cooling effect kept you cool when out in the sun.. for hunting i use it as a full head wrap to keep warm - it covers your neck nicely

You can also use them as a sling, improvised water filter, use it to carry stuff (wood, berries etc)..

they are also cheap...

Awesome Costco wool socks. Link here.

I use these throughout the winter and they're great. They're cheap and reliable when it's cold outside. I've owned 8 pairs for two years and pick some more up every year just in case they stop selling them for some reason. I've yet to cycle out the old ones because they're still perfectly fine.
