When I had real issues with it I would turn the brightness of the laptop way down and would get drowsy.

external PC monitors have color control in the menu, change it to "warm"

I am on a mac, and I use a program called Flux, it eliminates this problem entirely.

Not at all, My monitors are in my office and I'm in my bed.

Put black tape over the LED.

There is a thing called a power button.

That is what I'm looking at.  I usually end up laying in bed on the laptop and it takes me a bit to fall asleep.  I'll try it out.

I put tape on all the gagetry lights in my room. Everything has a light! I use different tape depending on how much I want to dampen the light.

Almost all computer equipment comes with this fancy device called a power switch.  You should learn how to use it.

I do this too. Black or white electrical tape usually, whichever will stand out less.
