I have an issue with every computer I own. There is an instance of svchost.exe that runs at a very high memory usage. I ran Malwarebytes, AVG, and Combofix, which removed some stuff. The issue went away. Well today I booted up, checked my task list, and svchost was running around 140k. I come here and go to the "you laugh you lose" thread and now I have two svchost.exe processes running as #1 & 2 for memory usage, and the first is running at 435k. Anyone else have something similar happen? ETA: Eh, false alarm. I closed my browser and the high running svchost went away. It must still be fixed from last time. |

What is svchost.exe? Svchost.exe is a process on your computer that hosts, or contains, other individual services that Windows uses to perform various functions. For example, Windows Defender uses a service that is hosted by a svchost.exe process. There can be multiple instances of svchost.exe running on your computer, with each instance containing different services. One instance of svchost.exe might host a single service for a program, and another instance might host several services related to Windows. You can use Task Manager to view which services are running under each instance of svchost.exe. |
